So it looks like Sheffield Wednesday have dropped there interest in cody, because of our asking price... Now I really don't understand what planet these managers and clubs are from. Cody notched up 20+ goals last year, hes a striker in demand, he belongs to premier league side and strikers always command I a higher fee... I just don't understand why clubs are saying forget about that to 550k. I think its a very reasonable price for him.
well put it this way. we paid a similar amount for simeon jackson after he has an excellent season at league one level. i can totally understand why some people think its too much for a striker who has really only performed for one season, and that at league two level. i think we are asking too much myself - a more reasonable offer of £300k should suffice in my opinion. he might not cut it at league one level... although i personally think that will be his prime level
This is the problem though. They are not paying for a league 1/2 striker, they're paying for a premiership striker now! I can understand that he's only had one proper season in league 2 but I bet you wouldnt be able to find another striker from in the prem who scored 20 odd goals last season for half a mil.
but they aren't paying for a premier league striker! they are paying for a player who has played about 10 games at championship level, 15-odd at league one level and had one excellent season at league two level. just because the club is top flight does not mean cody mcdonald is - he has contributed very little to our current position! he is a league one/league two striker, and a decent one, but to say he is worth £600k is frankly laughable and i'm a tad embarrassed that the club have put this price tag on his head. we should sell for £300k and stick a few extras on such as sell-on clauses and payments on goals scored.
i also don't like the fact that the club are messing with this lads career. he is never, ever going to get a look in at city - we gave him his big break in the game from non-league but we surely don't want to ruin his future by holding him back in our reserves? he deserves the chance to prove himself at a club where he can feature regularly - sheffield wednesday would have been an absolutely fabulous move for cody. he is 26 this year - he is not going to get another chance like this - they are a big club and could really make a name for himself and cut out a decent career for himself. sorry, but this has made me quite angry - we are messing with a young mans career.
I agree, we picked him up from Dartford for next to nothing and never really needed him. We should let him go to the best club to further his career rather than hussling for a profit... Very tight arse behaviour
Like I said on twitter earlier, something like £350k would be an awesome return - seeing as Gunny got him for around £25k, plus the guarantee of a friendly vs Dartford pre season. Plus it gets him off our wage bill, which needs stripping of those not allocated squad numbers and who won't feature. Also, as superman said, the guy is now a successful professional footballer, albeit not up to our required standard. But he'll have plans to be playing every week, not frozen out because of an over inflated price tag set by our board. Come on City, think of the player as well as your bank account.
Agree with everything Superman has said plus how realistic are we being. I would have thought that only League 1 and 2 Clubs would be interested and how many of them can spend £550K on a player? Also we could end up with a lot of egg on our faces. What happens if we don't sell him this transfer window? We won't get a lot for him in Jan and nothing for him next summer. Let him go now for the best price we can get!
in a way, its nice to know that with mcnally in charge, this club will not be held to ransom anymore. for years we sold our best players for a pittance but this quite honestly is a joke, and unfortunately the joke is on ourselves and poor cody. he is out of contract next summer so as 1950 says, he will only decrease in value anyway. sell him, sell him now, and let the lad carve out a living from football.
It's all about getting the right balance: a good club for Cody and the right value for the club. His price depends on how long he's got left on his contract. You're exactly right, Superman, about McNally and not being held to ransom. We signed him when we were struggling to survive in the Championship and he had his fair share of games. Cody was unlucky in a way, due to the change in circumstances at the club. Especially recently. Had we not been relegated to League 1 and changed managers would things have been different for him? Had we not got promotion to the PL would things be different? It's hard to tell. When we signed him, he was highly sought after, many Championship clubs were after, he wasn't seen as any old striker. Maybe he still has potential and Norwich have considered this in their valuation of him. I would also say that the club is more concerned about what they get from the deal than Cody's future. More money for Cody means more money for Lambert to spend on other players.
cody needs to be playing football so why are we asking so much money for him i feel sorry for cody these days it is all about money which is not always good
having had a number of 'altercations' on twitter this afternoon with the cody mcdonald fan club, can someone, anyone, please tell me what exactly he is going to achieve by staying with us, baring in mind lambert doesn't rate him and hasn't given him a squad number, he is at least 8th choice, maybe 9th in the pecking order, he has re-sale value of between £300 and £400k though the club seem to be being greedy, his contract only has 12 months to run, he has scored four goals for norwich in three seasons and he is 26 years of age this coming season?
Being an 'oldie' I'll just say this, anything or anyone who can upset 'ginger ****ing Megson' is alright by me! I hate him with a passion!
I think I've been a bit misread on this, the value I believe is fine but that's after any clauses! I like the bloke and always had a soft spot for him but he is dead wood now and time to move on. I think if we are asking for 550k upfront that is a tad to high but an overall package I think is more than acceptable...
Please do the decent thing for Cody. If only we ( Gills ) could afford to have him back. If your other strikers play as well as Cody did for us last year NCFC should easily survive in PL this season. ALL Gillingham fans would be desperate for him to return ( I have thought of re-mortgaging my house to buy him ) - Dont let his huge talents go to waste. Good luck for your season
ALL the best now u have reached the dizzy heights, really hope your still in there in may, (please can u give cody his busfare & send him back to priestfield) up the gill's
If Cody is still at Norwich on deadline day, it will be the first thing McNally has got wrong since he joined the club. Please review your stance on this, David, for the club, the fans, but most of all the player himself.
I stand with everyone else on wishing Cody a terrific career, I just wouldn't wish ginger bollocks on him! Horrible, nasty little twat!
