The project to bring the original Cobb Morley rule book to Hull to be exhibited, has gathered pace and there are several people interested in moving it forward. The more the merrier, though and whilst there are only three from here involved, others have said they will come on board. The first thing we need is a name for the project and the group. I know that many like to take the piss and I do not mind, but a sensible and workable name is needed. We did not have one when the banners were done and whilst Not 606 will be the conduit for the project the name has to be something that is recognised by more than posters on forums. We know the end objective is to bring the rule book to Hull. There is an underlying objective and that is to unite all Hull City supporters. We are looking at a series of challenges and events for fund and awareness raising. The first put forward one is to row/paddle either from or to London from Hull using the river and canal network. A sample route would be. The Humber - River Trent- Grand Union Canal/River Soar- Grand Union Canal It will need a great deal of planning and organisation. It will be a challenge and we will people to take up the chance to be part of the team. Either in the boat or in the support crew. The other objective (as I see it) is to produce a legacy. This could be an event or anything, but it has to be something that carries on beyond 2017. Cobb Morley was a founding Father of the FA, that is his legacy, for me it would be a fitting tribute to have something that links his name and Hull going forward. So please feel free to suggest names, events and challenges.
"Naughty, naughty. Very naughty." (Although the negative connotations with that name are probably not welcome).
"Footballs Coming Home" The rowing is a fitting because of his love for rowing so I like that a lot. Out of interest - who does the rule book currently belong to?
His laws of the game were known as the "London Rules", how about, "1863 - Hull Rules" or "FA - Hull Rules"
To raise funds and promote the project how about a Hull City 11 v a F.A 11 at the KC. Could be a mixture of League/England A/B and C players against City. The rowing is a cracking idea. Hull Trains could rename a locomotive Cobb Morley with the unveiling being at Hull Station with representatives from the FA and City. (Geraghty won't be interested in going and the event will probably be a success because of it!) Then again not sure Pappa Allam would entertain us being involved with anything that tells him how to run his business either!
"Hull Rules" seems to have some support, maybe if it's adopted as a logo "since 1863" could be added as a smaller tag in the graphic?
