That fat lump The Moose has just tweeted to say that it's a 'done deal' that Mackail-Smith has joined Brighton!:emoticon-0104-surpr

How would we all feel about losing a top transfer target of ours to a much lower ranked Championship team? And what would it say about the player if he has has turned down two PL offers and two offers from Leicester and West Ham?

If the 3M quoted price is true then i am glad hes not coming as i dont rate him that much. 1.5M would be fair.

Hopefully we can get Maynard and Nugent now

Stringer still seems to think he could end up here

It says that he's a muppet. Or gay... <whistle>

It's his loss, I couldn't really care less tbh. If this means we've got more chance of signing Maynard then great.

He says it 'remains a possibility'. The Club have probably not given up hope so haven't said he's not coming, in fact I bet they don't even know he's been speaking to Brighton. Once again Stringer's just guessing and knows **** all.

Like others I wouldn't be overly fussed if he didn't sign for us. Especially if it meant the Maynard deal is more likely to happen. My worry is if we lose out on CMS and Maynard, where do we turn to then? Nugent doesn't seem to know what he wants to do, and the talk over Derbyshire and Jong has gone dead. We need at least one, and preferably two, strikers immediately.

The Peterborough chairman has just tweeted this

Ok just had phone call, Craigs paperwork is being finalised and apparently at 1.30 there will be statement confirming he has left.

Definitely, this has been my fear for some time. Like I said on another thread I have a feeling players are using us to get themselves better deals at the clubs that they really want to go to. Eventually I can see us being at the stage where we have no one and targets are running out, resulting in panic buys because we can't afford not to get them.

I say just get the Nugent and Maynard deals done, whatever it takes (within reason).

Just think though, our starting strikeforce for the Coventry match could be Waghorn and Howard! <yikes> I do think we'll sign one striker, maybe Nugent, and probably another on loan, but it is quite worrying that at the moment, we haven't got a striker who you could put your hopes on for the forthcoming striker.

    Some more tweets:

Brighton were "more thorough and more urgent than all the others." CMS spoke to Allardyce, Sven and Warnock as well. #craigmackailsmith ad

Also told Neil Warnock DEFINITELY wanted CMS but Briatore and Ecclestone blocked it. My source: "those two shouldn't be in football." ad

I just think that CMS has shown a distinct lack of ambition in taking a sideways step to Brighton. Or maybe he's scared of actually performing for a big club. I don't know.

CMS clearly wants to be a big fish in a smallish pond. Not the other way round. I'm glad it's over, as this has probably been delaying us as well as Peterborough. Other big fish still to catch.

Still it's all a little weird that he's passed on us for a smaller club, but good luck to Brighton, none the less.

It must feel like they've won the pools!

Did you see Briatore and Ecclestone on top gear last night. That fat one Briatore looked a right twat with James May and Ecclestone was with Jeremy Clarkson

Recent post from Rob Tanner: "City still in the hunt for Matt Mills, but Routledge is a no go. Looks like CMS is not coming to City now. SSL deal expected to be completed"

    Dirk;

That's the only thing I can fathom about this move. That he wants to stay a big player for a smaller club, rather than moving to us or West Ham where he'd be just another striker. In which case he clearly doesn't believe he can up his game for a bigger club. He certainly hasn't opted for Brighton because he feels they can offer him more success. It's an odd one, though, whatever way you look at it.

Proud; Sorry, don't watch TG, Mrs forces me through Popstar to Operastar....

IM not that bothered...he either has a very massive ego and needs to be the top man at a small club...or no belief he can cut it with a big club with ambition...best we find out now......poor career choice IMO..............we move on...............

    Stringer backtracking as usual:

    That's that then.

    Get Maynard in Sven!

The good thing about this deal falling through is that it now frees up the £3m or so to go for someone else, or possibly multiple players. Hopefully Maynard is one of them.

I don't buy all this "Never wanted him stuff". Most were happy to sign him, so it's a little hurtful he's made this decision.

However, it is a weird one. No doubt about that. You've got us, well documented to be giving it a real go this season for the Prem. West Ham another big club favourites to go back up with numerous good players in their squad. QPR already in the Prem along with Norwich, but no!

No. He signed for the smallest team mentioned having only just got up. They're ambitious and so they should be, but CMS cannot surely make a convincing argument that Brighton & Hove Albion FC will offer him, today, before a ball is kicked the greatest chance of glory.

    He's bottled it. Simple.

I agree with others though, this is a very useful £3,000,000 to spend on non-bottlers.
