Following a series of arrests this morning, in relation to the Bristol City v Bristol Rovers derby fixture on September 4th, the club has released the following statement. "Bristol City FC has been kept fully up to date with regards to the Avon & Somerset Police operation and have supported their investigations wherever possible. "We now await the outcomes of these arrests. "The club has recently issued 33 lifetime bans to those convicted of violent acts and disorder at the away match at Cardiff City in February, all of which had been handed nationwide football banning orders through the magistrates spanning between three and six years. "Anyone found guilty of offences of this nature for the Bristol Rovers derby match can expect the same punishment with a lifetime ban from Bristol City FC. "The club would like to take this opportunity to make it crystal clear; those found guilty of serious criminal offences are not welcome at Ashton Gate. âWe are a family club â with community as one of our five pillars â and we are confident that our law-abiding supporters will fully back our stance on this matter.â http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20131030-clubstatement-1144359.aspx
Lifetime ban! Where does that sit with equal opportunities and work the clubs community trust does with young offenders? What about the rehabilitation of offenders act? Bradley Orr ..
I think there is a difference between running on the pitch and violent disorder. I would assume that the police would need evidence of violence to convict - therefore if someone is convicted then a lifetime ban sounds reasonable?
