Magpies oppose potential fixture change with Norwich City

    CLUB STATEMENT

The Premier League has notified the Club that the Norwich City v Newcastle United League fixture, originally scheduled for Tuesday 28th January at Carrow Road, will be moved to Wednesday 29th January should Norwich City progress to the FA Cup 4th Round.

Newcastle United strongly opposed this potential fixture change due to the major impact it will have on the loyal fans who have already booked match tickets, travel and accommodation. However, after considering both clubs' representations, the Premier League Board granted Norwich City's request to move the fixture, thereby completely disregarding the impact this will have on our fans.

At a time when the League are encouraging clubs to come up with initiatives to address reduced away supporter numbers, the disruption to Newcastle United fans further compounds a fixture selection clearly against the principles of encouraging away supporters to travel, given those making the journey from Tyneside are facing a midweek evening round-trip of 520 miles.

Newcastle United notes that a condition of this potential fixture change was that Norwich City had to provide an undertaking for the reimbursement of any match day tickets returned by home or away supporters unable to attend the re-arranged match, as well as giving consideration to the cost of travel for away supporters.

Confirmation of the final fixture date will follow the FA Cup 3rd Round Replay result between Norwich City and Fulham on Tuesday 14th January.

No consideration for the fans from the powers that be though.

The PL should be made to reimburse the fans.

    An update.

Magpies sick as parrots if Canaries progress.

Thought that Newcastle's interest in the FA Cup was over for this season? Unfortunately that's not the case, with anyone planning on attending the Norwich City away game later this month now forced to pay attention to events at Craven Cottage next Tuesday evening.

Were the Canaries to beat Fulham in their FA Cup Third Round replay that night, then Chris Hughton's side would face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in a Fourth Round fixture televised live on Sunday January 26th.

And if that happens, Norwich have now disclosed that permission has been granted for their Premier League home game against Newcastle on the following Tuesday to be pushed back by 24 hours.

In other words, if Norwich beat Fulham on Tuesday January 14th then Norwich will play Newcastle on Wednesday January 29th - but if Fulham beat Norwich then United's trip to Carrow Road would remain as per currently scheduled, on Tuesday January 28th.

Having already missed out on a ticket price reduction for this game due to City's reluctance to agree a deal with United, those loyal fans heading to Norfolk now face the prospect of travel plans, hotel bookings and days taken off work being rendered useless with two weeks' notice.

Was looking forward to going to this game but I think I'll be giving it a miss now.

This is down to TV, they could easily have had Arsenal (travelling down to Southampton) or Liverpool (playing Everton) on the Sunday, wouldn't have affected fans as much.

Not an ounce of consideration for the fans. So basically, i've taken 2 days off work, booked my ticket and my travel to go to this game. Because Norwich's (potential) game against lower league opponents has been selected for TV coverage myself and thousands of others plans have been screwed up. The Premier League and Norwich City can F*** right Off! Move their cup game to the f*****g Saturday!!

A big derby game like that would have attracted plenty of viewers and wouldn't have cost the fans much.

Presumably the game will go ahead as scheduled on the 28th now that Norwich are out of the cup.

A 3-0 win for Fulham over Norwich City in their FA Cup Third Round replay on Tuesday night thankfully averted the prospect of Newcastle's visit to Norfolk being rescheduled at just two weeks' notice.

Had The Canaries won at Craven Cottage, their televised Fourth Round tie at Sheffield United would have resulted in United's trip to Norfolk being put back 24 hours - with consequent upheaval to travel plans and arrangements for those Toon followers making the 520 mile round trip.

Thankfully though the Cottagers progressed and our visit to Carrow Road will go ahead as originally advertised, on Tuesday January 28th - weather permitting...
