A club statement regarding Newcastle United coaches John Carver and Andy Woodman


Newcastle United received a number of complaints from supporters regarding the conduct of its coaching staff during and after the defeat to Southampton on Saturday, 13th September.

This matter has now been dealt with internally.

Following the conclusion of the Club's enquiries, assistant manager John Carver , said: "My sole focus on Saturday, as it always is, was on trying to gain three points for Newcastle United and preparing the players to the best of my ability.

"This included keeping them focussed on their roles and duties in the upcoming 90 minutes.

"In the warm-up, I was disappointed to see banners that could, in my opinion, distract the players and take focus away from the job in hand - namely winning the match.

"I went over to our fans to ask them to help us and requested that they take the banners down. The vast majority of supporters back the team through thick and thin and I am very proud to be one of them.

"I was met with abuse from one supporter and I regret that I responded inappropriately. I sincerely apologise for any offence caused by my reaction.

"Every fan is entitled to an opinion, positive or negative, and I respect that. I hope fans will understand that I, like them, only wanted what was best for the team.

"I am proud to work for my home town club and would ask every supporter to back the players and all staff, as they really can make a difference."

Goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman , said: "I am very sorry for the ill-advised comment I posted privately on Twitter on Sunday morning, which was subsequently made public.

"It was never my intention, of course, for my response to enter the public domain.

"My response was a reaction to significant personal abuse I received from a number of fans which I felt exceeded that which was fair and balanced.

"That said, I understand my response was unacceptable and I regret my actions and apologise for any offence caused."

 

Saw it and thought, that doesn't constitute an apology

Woodman basically just said "sorry some twat made what I said public"... Yeah because twitter is a private media

and Carver's was more a sympathy plea.

Saying "I apologise" isn't an apology, it's a description of an action...

 

Glad to see they are apologising for what happened. Don't fully know what happened but fans may not have been 100% innocent.

Two foul cunny's of the worse sort. They will be hopefully out on their arse very soon and can be Pardew's personal baggage carriers to wherever he f**s off to. They can both drag Stone behind them as well.

 

Carver obviously doesn't play enough Call of Duty. The play in that kind of situation is not react verbally or try to pinpoint the ones abusing you, just fire a noob tube into the set of ****ers. With Andy Woodman, there is something about the bloke I'm just not sure I like. That said his son is obviously a good goalkeeper so best accept his apology and move on

I wonder if the fan(s) will reciprocate and apologise for their behaviour?

 

Their boss nuts folk in front of 52,000 witnesses so their actions are just chicken feed.

Wonder how the club dealt with it.. Probably a bit of back slapping and a glass of red.

So Carver basically saying "I'm very sorry...... that I got into trouble. And I sincerely regret..... being told off by the club for being naughty!"

OK, Carver, should probably have kept his mouth shut, but, never thought I would see the day when Adult Male Newcastle United Fans, would be 'Upset' at a handbags shouting match with someone like Carver. People should grow a pair, and if you can't take it, don't give it in the first place.

Woodman - he basically called someone acting a twat on Twitter an idiot - GOOD! The fan acted a twat and got called an idiot! Nothing more!

Carver - should be sacked! Useless beyond words and should be seen just in the same light as Pardew! Oh wait he's one of us so we can forgive him, blah, blah, blah! He needs to go, now!
