Very new on here and only posted a couple of times, so be kind lol. Going on about Players being loyal to their club, I can only think of Le Tissier at Southampton and Bull at Wolves. Are there any more players who have refused big money moves to stay at their home club?
Gerrard Carragher Giggs Scholes Harper (had to move though) Iniesta Xavi Messi (so far) Totti Maldini Baresi (I think) Pretty sure there are tons more, but that's all I've got. Not sure how many of those refused big money moves but they were loyal.
Loads, Rowell & Monty never wanted to leave Sunderland as two examples. Le Tissier stayed at Southampton 'cos they let him get away with murder and he was the big fish in a little pond. I can't remember Bull being offered big money to leave Wolves tbh.
Shearer was probably loyal to the mags but he did have the big money from Blackburn. There probably are sh*t loads more but at the time I could only think of those 2. I must be getting well old ha ha
Scholes once told the owner of Inter Milan "If you want me to play for you, you'll have to buy Manchester United". Madrid et al knew they'd never prize him away from us after that statement was released by Inter's president at the time. My favourite ever player.
All them players are or were at top clubs so there was a reason to stay bull le tiss and shearer were very loyal considering they won nowt
And I read he handed in 2 transfer requests when Leeds offered £20,000,000 but we refused twice, then we went down the season after, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we should have cashed in at the time. As for shearer, he might not have won anything, but they were a decent team at the time, OK no Man U, but they did get Europe and a couple of cup finals.
Did he have the choice marra!?! I'm led to believe that Jack Walker wouldn't sell to Man Utd as they were deemed 'rivals'? It would have been interesting if he did have the choice... It's easy to choose your 'home town' if there are no other serious alternatives!
Monty was off as soon as he was left out of the starting line up, A great servant to the club though, but questionable loyalty.
