i was listening to talksport the other day and they were talking about how the word "legend" was used willy nillly these days. They came up with the question who would your club legend be, but only ONE name allowed. Mine was easy.KEVIN KEELAN. Whos yours?
i guess he fails the definition of 'true legend' as per the OP. he has legendary status in my eyes for a few performances i saw and his hair cut!
I fully agree with Talksport on this. A player has 2 or 3 seasons at a Club and scores a few goals and suddenly he is a Club Legend - no he isn't. To earn that title I believe a player has to put in many years of consistent quality performances which is difficult to achieve in the modern game with all the transfers and financial incentives to move - Giggs, Scholes and Gerrard obviously being exceptions to that rule. Under that criteria I would nominate my childhood hero Johnny Gavin, Barry Butler or Kevin Keelan.
Not that I'd know anything, but Duncan Forbes must be up there... " The Times famously noted his aggressive defending by writing "Forbes got his customary booking; the referee ought to take his name in the changing room rather than on the pitch thus saving time."" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan_Forbes_(footballer) 33 years club service, captain of the 1972 promotion winning team and if he needed a reference, us lot ****ing hated him!!
Being just 18, it has to be Darren Huckerby, my first true idol. Another couple of years, however, and it would probably be Grant Holt. I don't think I need to remind anyone here just how much of a talisman he's been for the club over the last three years.
Would have been interesting if this thread had been posted as a poll, showing the voting of the older and younger Budgies, but I would think that in the spirit of the OP, the one and only Budgie legend would have to be one of the two that you have named!
