Lots of what Clough said had to be taken with a large pinch of salt ...

... I never believed him tbh.

Right. There's a few quotes I've read directly or attributed to him over the years. Not sure why he would lie about Sunderland if he wasn't bothered about us. I've no idea if the one I heard about meeting Tom Cowie (?) in a car park for the manager job was true though.

Cloughy was Clough through and through. He used interest from other clubs throughout his time at Derby and Forest to get him better contracts where he was.

Great post mate....memories for me seeing Roker as it was in those days....as a young boy I was there at the Bury match. Didn't realise the significance of it at the time.

Had the pleasure of meeting the man. I think he was genuine enough in his love of us personally.

I was there too, and I did realise the significance , it still hurts like hell that we ( that Collins wash house dynasty ) treat him like S**t . useless bastards. that they were.

My dad reckons he was the best striker we ever had, pure instinct and just built to score goals

My old man stuck with Bobby Gurney, saying that all his goals were scored in the old First Division days, when you think that our spine in Brians day was Montgomery, Hurley, Clough , its hard to believe we were stuck in Div 2. loosing out on promotion in the cruelest fashion imaginable in Brians hey day here

I hate (actually love) talking to my dad about the players he has seen play for us. He could talk for hours about them

My old fella says Trevor Ford was the best.

Sounds like now where we all argue about players <laugh>

I will have to ask dad about Trevor Ford, trouble is it sends him down a worm hole of players that he waxes lyrical about, then the beer mats come out and he tries to explain to me the formations from the 50's and 60's and how they were so much better
