My all time favourite player, I remember reading about his exploits at Boro in the Sunday papers, and could not believe it when he signed for us, still remember him running out onto the pitch at Roker in his first game, his 30 yard daisy cutter against Liverpool reserves after he was dropped for not scoring for a game or two. his hat trick down at Southampton. I could go on and on, saw him get injured and his try at a come back, against Leeds of all people, he still won his battle with Big Jack but not against his injury, devastated on the news of his retirement and prayed he would become our manage, still gutted he never did. Yep he was a super hero in my eyes was Old Big Head and always will be. no one like him and never will be.

He had a wonderful knack of turning 'has beens' into world beaters. Shilton, Larry Lloyd, John Robertson, John Mcgovern and even our own John O'Hare ... the list is endless, virtually all considered finished by their previous clubs. Great believer in a blend of experience plus some youth to do all the running. I would love to see how he would handle some of today's pansy potter players. Probably not with kid gloves!!
Desperately wanted to manage us but no-one at Roker was prepared to take the risk. Such a pity.

Just bought Jonathan Wilson's biography of Brian Clough. Not started reading it yet but it looks good. Wilson is a great football writer (as well as a Sunderland fan) and I highly recommend his books. I only remember Clough from his time at Forest but I enjoy the stories about. A brilliant manager and good, but perhaps quite difficult, man.

This story about Dean Saunders' transfer to Forest is brilliant

Brilliant isn't he? The last one I read was 'The Names Heard Long Ago' which I think is possibly my favourite.
