Can't see the point of it.Plenty of reasoned contributions, one or two a bit near the mark but nothing anywhere close to being in contravention of the rules.Stifling of free speech.....and I was just feeling a rip into JWM moment coming on.

Relax CT. It's just been closed for further consideration. Appropriate Mod action given the borderline comments in my opinion.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but I'll answer anyway, understanding that this is just a football forum has a lot to do with it, and general boredom over the circular rows between certain individuals. :emoticon-0118-yawn:

I personally find it a bit uncomfortable to read people having an argument on politics on our Norwich board. IMO Maestro you did the right thing and I am thankful for it.

Guys, as mods we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. It doesn't look like Rob or NCGandy will be back any time soon, and the last thread on a similar topic cost us Redruth and ILD. We either shut the thread (and take the blame for stifling freedom of speech), or let a thread which no longer had anything to do with our football club continue to run and risk losing yet more members. If I remember correctly, at least two people called for the thread to be closed, but it was always going to upset someone.

Moderating seems to consist of endless catch-22 situations, and if the majority of people feel that the three of us are consistently calling them wrong, then we'll see which route is best to rectify that. At the end of the day though, we're three normal football fans trying to foster healthy football debate, and the amount of petty squabbling on this board of late makes me think either we're going about it completely the wrong way, or we're just wasting our time.

Can't we all just get along? <hug>

As far as I am concerned if I don't like the direction a thread is taking I just don't contribute any more. It's like the old TV censorship debate. You have an off switch. With the possible exception of Reckless Erik there was nothing remotely offensive. To use his time honoured phrase - grow a pair!

I think it was a good decision closing it imo, it felt more like personal attacks on other members and it strayed massively off topic.

Don't see how keeping it opened would benefit anyone. Mods do have a tough job, what ever they decide to do is fine by me, it's not going to effect my real life if they close a thread.

I agree, but when dealing with such individuals you can't allow the lunatics to overtake the asylum.

DH - As far as I can see, none of you are going about things the wrong way, the fault, if it lies anywhere, lies with some contributers who just have no comprehension of where the line goes, and when they are about to step over it. I can´t see there´s much more that any of you can do, and still hope to encourage good open debate, if you start trying to clamp down, you´ll lose even more folk, it´s some of us who have to change, not you. I didn´t go anywhere near the offending thread, so I don´t know, nor want to know, how things developed, but it´s very sad if we´ve lost two more good members because of it.

Mods, completely the right decision to close that one, it went totally off the rails compared to what the o/t was about. Clearly there is some beef between one or two of us plus the two lads from Ipswich. Let's not lose anymore members and hopefully gandy and Rob will both return
