The People is reporting that Clint is attracting interest from Paris St Germain and Aston Villa, and that PSG are considering an £8m bid. I'm fairly confident we'll keep hold of him if those are the only interested clubs. Neither are in the Champions League, and he wouldn't be eligible for the Europa League with PSG.
Don't think we are to sell Demps for £8m. I hope at least. And neither team is really a step up or forward.
I think if they had come in at the beginning of the transfer window with a bid as much as £8m then Jol might have let him go. But I think it's far too late in the day to sell him, unless we are guaranteed to get a replacement or there is a player swap in the deal. We just can't afford to lose any more players, as injuries could mean we are left with few senior players to chose from, and would struggle to score goals.
A case of both a) too little; & b) too late (I hope). Would not like to see him go. We need to buy not sell.
I'd say PSG are on the up, they seem pretty ambitious considering they managed to sign Pastore from under Chelski's nose. But still, £8m is derisory. Going by how much other team's key players go for (Lescott, Milner, Carroll etc) we should be looking for something like £20m.
£20m is a bit ambitious (but, if it's a seller's market...) I think £10m would be a fairer price, but I'd rather have Dempsey than the money. I agree with GeraScores: if this offer had come in earlier in the window, I could have seen the club being more open to the idea. At this stage, it would be bad news for us.
£10m is indeed a fair price, but fair prices are a rarity these days Cap! I do agree though, Demps should stay, and he's not going this late in the day.
£10m sounds like good money until you think about trying to replace Dempsey. Put this on your shopping list: we need double-digit goals, someone who can play on the left, the right and up front. He's also been available for 90% of the games during the last 4 years. Not many players around like that. It's the same thing with Zamora. If someone offered £8m for him, you'd be tempted to take it until you went shopping for replacement.
As a Wolves supporter said to me at last weeks match,Demps is far to good for you lot, On our present performances I quite agree. He will be gone by the weekend.
Been taking a back seat,re views but I must say we are not looking good the last 3 games should have given us at least 4 points, with an achievable 9. Regarding Dempsey,as said by others our lynchpin, if we should get what 7/8mil, who do we go for, who, would have his ability in the mentioned price bracket.
I don't agree dempsey that is far too good for us valjing. He has indeed along with Schwarzer, Hangeland, Murphy and Zamora made up the spine of the team for the last few years, but until last season he hadn't really established himself as a permanent starter let alone a prolific goalscorer, as gera, duff and davies were often keeping him out the team. Plus although I think he is a fine player, he still drifts in and out of games too much for me, therefore if he moved to a Champions league he would always be more of an impact sub/squad player than regular starter. He is certainly one of our finest assets but hardly miles ahead of the rest of the squad. I would be surprised and very disappointed if dempsey were to leave this week.
I don't think Dempsey is too good for Fulham, either. I could see Dempsey playing for a team slightly better than ourselves (Everton, Villa and maybe Tottenham), but he couldn't crack the starting 11 at any of the big five clubs. I hope he stays; he brings quality and reliability game after game. While an offer of £10m would be tempting, when you price out replacing his productivity, you realize he's a bargain.
