Yes he was lucky but you need some every now and then! He marshalled the defence all game, probably said more tonight than Ned has said all season, a proper leader on the pitch!!!
He was outstanding today...... made a huge difference Ps..... And he got the ball as far as I could see
I've been saying for weeks that we should start Clint with Hall. We finally play the back four that I've been advocating and we don't concede. Still, what do I know?
Apart from one major ****-up which could have cost us the game, Hill gave us the strength that we had been lacking at the heart of the defence - he remains a much better defender than Angella. Hall, who has been consistently good all season and was wrongly dropped to accommodate Angella, seemed to appreciate having an old head alongside him.
Clint was lucky, but played well....and brought out the best in Hall...except for one almighty gaff of Hall's own that could have caused us a goal. Ned played better (going forward) but still has no defensive sense as a right back. One way or another Clint made us play better at the back...and was a great leader (better than Ned on the field0....I have been one of Neds greatest supporters, but he does not appear to be stepping up....so sad
Well don't doubt yourself Seems you were right Hill will always give everything Not conceding has to be a plus
Straight red Played well Couple of silly errors 1st half 2 great clearances which without him "would have been the 2 goals that we normally let in" Talks well to those around Hall was better overall - didn't think he made any errors Love him Keep that defence for now then find a right back who can pass Keep Sandro in front - he won a lot in the air just in front of the defence Let the other 5 win the game
Great leadership but red every day. Last night's game redressed about 30% of the crap decisions against us over the last decade!
Didn't see or hear the game but remember Clint must be rusty so obviously will make the odd mistake and will make the odd mistake even if playing regular, but what defender in our ranks does not make mistakes? At 37 he still is the best defender in the club but I am sure the negative knockers will pick up on a mistakes but in this match who cares he got away without a yellow card never mind a red.
Clint was clumsy and slow and nearly cost us the game but he still looked head and shoulders a better defender than Onuoha whose confidence seems to be sinking faster than the proverbial stone and whose influence as captain is non-existent. I know we have too few choices across the back but I really would leave him out for a couple of games and see if we can build something more coherent around CH at the back.
Small thing, but I noticed after one of their attacks that broke down in the second half, Clint Hill was lambasting the referee for a perceived offside that wasn't given. No one else on the pitch or crowd seemed to care, but Clint wasn't going to let it go. It's this kind of passion and persistency that makes him a much more important player than his ability would otherwise allow for. I would imagine that SAF would have always asked his players to contest every decision, whatever the consequences, and never give ground, in order to keep the ref on side. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but said a lot to me.
