EDIT: Apologies for the thread title - it appears to have named itself after a previous thread I made! If you couldn't love the man even more, on tonights London Call-in show he revealed that he actually spoke to Harry Redknapp at half-time on Monday night about subbing him for Suk-Young. He said he felt a weakness of Wigan's in the game was down his side and that Suk-Young could do a better job of getting up and down the wing and attacking more than he could. They gave it five minutes to see if Wigan changed their shape. That is an outstanding piece of professionalism from the man - to suggest subbing yourself is pretty amazing in a game of that importance. He is going down as one of our more recent legends for the things he has done for our club.
In this era of modern football, he stands out as a true professional. Have always had a soft spot for him, and as time goes by he gains more and more respect - what he lacks in ability he certainly makes up for in hard graft, there are many players throughout all the leagues that could learn a thing or two from Clint
Superb on Clint's part. Putting the team before himself. Perhaps we already have the man to be in charge of our tactics next season.
And I got ribbed on another thread about mentioning him amongst our greatest. He is a real player, areal gent and blue and white throughout Good vision, he will make a good coach, and I hope he stays with us
I'd have him as manager next season, providing he has good back room staff he can feed off and learn from.
Thats why Yun came on so early then. Hill knows he cant play LB too well but is doing it as hes asked. Thats incredibly unselfish of him and may mean he could miss the biggest match of his career. Thats the attitude you want your coaches to drum into players.
I think wed need him anyway because we don't do two plus goal wins so he'd come on anyway. He'd still lift the cup even if he was an unused sub or injured.
John Terry style. Sorry, didn't mean to ruin thread by mentioning his name. Take a bow Clint, that is something of the most unselfish things I've ever heard of in football.
Why doesn't the swear moderate thing take care of words like that Clint could not be any further away in character than from John Terry I just hope one way or another he gets to lift the cup
Captains can still life the cup, they don't dress up in full kit and shin pads when they arent even playing like that prick. That's why there's a long running meme about him but not others who do it with class. In fact, hill is the type of person who would tell the captain of the day to lift it rather than himself if he wasn't in the squad.
Having to tell Arry to put a Yun on for him is a bigger inditement of Arry than big of Clint who just said what about anyone else watching the game saw except Arry probably. I hope Clint tells Arry to play him CB with Ned Saturday and leave Dunne on the Bench.
I thought exactly the same but decided not to post it because I couldnt be arsed to start an argument. Id still think Hill will start at LB though.
I don't think he will necessarily be a great coach, that's pure speculation and yet to be proven. But in terms of motivating and inspiring the young players by his presence, energy and desire for the game, absolutely; keep him at the club and develop his coaching in parallel.
I think he will definitely make it as a coach at some level, whether that be with the youth players (what a role model and inspiration he would be) or proving himself further up the ladder. We hear talk of 'the right sort', well this gent fits in perfectly and should be lined up for a coaching role with the youth academy or first team without any doubt once he has his 'badges' sorted.
