Just because his transfer hasn't been talked about much, nothing else is happening and it's an interesting move, I thought I'd start a thread about him. To start off, here's a clip of all of his goals from last season, lovingly compiled by a Liverpool fan: Hopefully we'll score a few more headers this season with him in the side, something that we were notably short of in the last campaign. Might improve our record from set-pieces, especially if the delivery's a little better. I've noted quite a bit of interest from US 'soccer' fans since his move. Under Armour must be ecstatic and it'll be interesting to see if the media over there increases their coverage of us as a result.
Love this signing, hope he plays against Reading and helps us win. It'll be close with the jet lag and travelling schedule, but us playing on Sunday should give him time to recover and hopefully integrate a little with the squad on Friday training. AFAIK the States are playing early wednesday morning our time, so I guess he'll be back in the UK sometime Thursday, pretty much shattered, but at least he's got three nights sleep before facing Reading.
the american thing did cross my mind when we signed him. If that was a factor, at least we couldn't have signed a better american!
the goal that impressed me most in that clip is the one at about 1m25s. Some intelligent play there in the way he slightly checked his run before continuing. Defoe!
He'll probably be playing in the Tim Cahill role - playing off the striker, generally being a nuisance for defenders and chipping in with a few goals. That covers most fantasy football questions, right?
Brilliant player....where is he playing? I'd put him on the right instead of Lennon or behind Ade...that VDV role.....I don't know where that leaves Sig. What I like about this window is that we have signed intelligent players.
I know there is one person who is extremely pissed off about this signing and the way he was treated and that is Harry Kane.
Understandable, SC. We've basically bought two players in his position and alienated him. Glad he's gone out on loan to get some Premier League experience, but I also hope to see him back at WHL in the future.
did'nt AVB say that Harry can do a job for him, would imagine he'll get a chance seeing as we're in the europa league
Will he be commuting in from Norwich on Thursdays then, Tots? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19447432
feel a bit sorry for Clint. he seemed to be forgotten a bit in the last few days because of the other names we signed for more money, those marquee names we missed out on even for bigger money, and our 19 threads we have for tactics!!! like spurf says, no nonsense. I've noticed from that clip how he likes to keep the ball low and hard when he strikes. hopefully we've found us a man who'll have just have a bloody "dig" when we're in need of a bit of inspiration. We don't do enough of that.
One of the things that worries me the most about AVB is his seeming lack of man management, and interpersonal skills. Now, Redknapp would have made the boy feel like he'd done him a favour. Re Dempsey. He's a good all round utility player, IMO. a useful addition to the squad. He's capable of filling in in several different positions, if necessary. As I've said before, his attitude is what I like best. He always gives 100% and he never gives up.
Not sure that's true, NSIS. Redknapp's good at managing a relatively small group of players, but he's awful at dealing with big squads. He clearly alienated Corluka, Kranjcar, Pienaar, Dos Santos, Gomes, Pavlyuchenko... I'll stop there, I think. Good with some players, but next to useless with others.
Ahh the old man management point in Harry's favour. Despite this supposed strong point, he managed to all but alienate Pav, Niko, Charlie and countless others!
Conveniently forgetting that at least 6 of those named players shot themselves in the foot with their continued unprofessional attitudes.
That may well be true SC, but we (the average fan) don't get to see that. Surely man management is about getting the best out of players with difficult attitudes, anyway? If someone's a brilliant professional, then you don't have to do anything on that front. Between Levy and Redknapp, those players needed to either be brought into line or moved on and replaced. I'd suggest that a number of them haven't been and our squad's depth has suffered as a result.
