http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/11/clint-dempsey-transfer-listed-by-spurs/ According to a report by The Times (accessible by subscription only), Clint Dempsey has been transfer listed by his club Tottenham Hotspur as they look to find a buyer for the attacking midfielder. Just one relatively disappointing season after he shoved his way out of Fulham, he may be moving on again. He scored just 7 Premier League goals last season in 29 appearances (22 starts) for Spurs, and there has been talk of a loan move while Andre Villas-Boas figures out the pecking order of his front midfield and strike force. However, it would seem that â if true â AVB has decided to simply part ways with the American. Dempsey was looking for bigger and better things â most notably Champions League play â when he made a somewhat fiery exit from Craven Cottage last summer on just before the deadline. Spurs just barely missed qualification for the Champions League for the second straight season. There are still two years remaining on the 30-year-oldâs deal at White Hart Lane, and Clintâs agent Lyle Yorks told MLSsoccer.com in May âTottenham are very happy with Clint and he is very happy with them. Thereâs no truth to the [the report].â Itâs a bit of poor timing for Dempsey with the World Cup a season away, and heâll want to get his future sorted out relatively quickly as the international game heats up in preparation for Brazil. He's had his chance at the big move, it hasn't ended well for him. He'll need to take a pay cut wherever he goes unless he wants to play for a sugar daddy in a poor league. Spurs can't expect to sell for profit or even break even. But his mature head would be welcome in what's now a very youthful squad. Could he finish our attack off nicely. He's played lots of footy with Jozy too which reaps all kind of benefits, like an established understanding with each other, he can also help Jozy settle into country. Plus can you imagine it would for our profile in the US? Cha-Ching!!! He's got bags of premiership experience and still has two good years in him. If we could get his wages down then I say yes. What do you guys think?
Start of last season if somebody offered him (think we were actually after him) I would have took their hand off. Now though, things seems different, don't know where he could fit in. It's been very quiet from the club as to Fletcher but I assume PDC has plans for him & he is going to be pivotal towards where we are going.
I want quality and depth. More the merrier so long as they're good. He doesn't have to be a replacement but he can be an addition imo.
Don't get me wrong mate, wouldn't say no to the bloke certainly not. Would be a good addition to any squad imo, at he right price would have him any day. Doesn't seem to be what Di Canio is looking towards though, I'm not manager though, wish I was like wouldn't be getting up at 7 tomorrow morning with a ****ing hang over if i was.
I think he'll go back to Fulham. We, assuming Giaccherini, have no need, nor a place for him, and it feels ****ing excellent to say that cos the lad is a smashing footballer. 'We have no need for Dempsey'. Yeah, I ****ing like that.
I'd take him but just out of sheer greed. Also we'd be massive in America with him and Jozy playing for us.
I'd have him, was class a couple years back at Fulham. 2m max and he'd be a great addition to our team
Na it would mean selling a **** load of shirts across the atlantic and not giving them a second thought.
might be something in this mind (he still has two years left on his Spurs contract), and also with a move to Sunderland. Fellow American Jozy Altidore signed for Paolo Di Canio's side earlier this week.
really wanted him to sign last year now it all depends if pdc thinks he will fit in cos we dont know who else is coming or maybe coming.
@SAFCsource Sunderland linked with Clint Dempsey after he's made available for transfer. http://yhoo.it/1dnb9ic ‪#‎SAFC‬
