... with Nissan expanding their battery powered operation in the region. Who needs the Mag-Arabs to regenerate the NE when we have those Japaner fellas. A great group of lads, unlike them bat eating Chinesers. キャニー フェラス please log in to view this image
i guess they been given some nice ..err... 'incentives' as well to keep them here instead of buggering orf to europe after brexit.
Yes mate, they're being paid to invest money here They want the same deal for Ellesmere Port otherwise they'll pull out of there ... ... after Boris Johnson promised to look after the people in the North, who voted him in, he daren't say no tbh.
all i can ever really remember about nissan is that every time those incentives were due to run out they threatened to leave our shores, all thanks to that woman back in the 80's buggering everything up and having to get whatever jobs into the area they could manage at whatever cost, scary times and now we got so little to lose
Sadly the NE has so little to offer now and it's frightening ... ... what advantages do we have in all honesty.
seem to recall it being said a few years back that call centres were our fastest growth and biggest employer in the N.E.... that was roughly about the time that the call centres realised that they could move lock stock and barrel to india and save a fortune, cue ever more 'incentives'. how the hell we are/were classed as the 5th best economy i have no idea, maybe the rest of the world is in just as much sh1t.
Our tech sector is very very strong. To be honest the manufacturing and offshore are too. Nissan has reached a point of no return imho as they’d have to do 30 years of investment (getting a team together as good as they have, and a local supply chain would be a knack on too) that they can’t move. The money that they request is really just a joint venture with the government, which gets some reflected glory and ensures that the supply chain and it's jobs are protected, which is definitely cheaper than the dole costs.
Climate Conference finishes, China, India and Australia make Alok Sharma cry cos they refuse to cut using coal. If we want to do something about it, should we just stop buying stuff from those countries?
I wonder what incentives sharma or the government will provide next to move us away from Russian gas and Middle East oil?
Nissan are staying for sure. First thing after the 2016 referendum they were handbagging May in number 10. I bet she promised to subsidise any tariffs the EU put up with the tariffs we'd get off the EU. Now the plant is bigger than ever and them Japaners aren't stupid!
They were never going mind. Just like Unilever were never going. And Shell were never going. But in the case of Nissan, almost half French owned anyway, any incentive received here would have been offered elsewhere. Good news either way, though I still have grave doubts about electric cars being genuinely useful for the majority. Not least because over 40 per cent of houses do not have driveways . Where do you charge them?
We'd be without a lot of stuff! But it does highlight the hypocrisy of the West, in demanding that emerging economies stop making a mess, while they are making stuff for us, who then boast of ourselves making no mess!
