"Clean sheets are important but I don't care if they score four, if we score five it's the same," Enrique told BBC Radio Merseyside.

The problem with this statement is we are not outscoring the opposition.

There seems to be two sets of Liverpool fans on the board at the moment the fans who think we need to be more clinical in front of goal and the fans who think we desperately need a center back to shore up the defense.

I'm more on the side of the defense and think that Skrtel is not good enough and would like to see Agger, Kelly or Coates played instead of him. However only Coates is dominant in the air, something that I think needs addressing so in my opinion he should start.

As for the striking option what about Suarez and Bellamy? Surely that would be a defenders hell?

Your thoughts on the Enrique statement and the options at the back and up front?

Enrique is in my fantasy team. It should be important to him! He's the only one that matters to me. <grr>

My title is a little misleading, he does say they are important but doesn't care as long as we win.

Well I think our problem is we create so many chances but don't put them away. How can a CB help us score more than 1 against Norwich? Sure it would be useful but mostly we need to start converting our chances. Are you happy with our goalscoring record then?

I'm more towards the center back option but understand both arguments, I think we have quality forwards and so that part will come good where as I don't rate Skrtel and worry about that position.

I bet Pepe Reina gave him more than an ear-flick when he saw that!

This is why I don't have any Liverpool players in my fantasy football team, the back can't keep a clean sheet, while the front men are firing blanks. Maybe Newcastle are doing so well at the back because Enrique has gone, along with his cavalier attitude.

<ok> Reina hates conceding, you saw it vs Bolton when we had already won the game...he wanted that free kick.

It is generally regarded that great teams are built on a strong defense, agree?

Yes, remember in the 08/09 season when Man Utd grinded out a record amount of 1-0 victories? Probably the difference between being champions and not.

Ive never heard this guy speak before but in the past few days hes suddenly got alot to say.

i agree with him on this but on his other point....**** him the silly ****.

Winning is what its about, 1-0, 6-5, 101-100. Doesnt matter the score aslong as you win. Looking to keep clean sheets is also important but really means nothing if your winning still. When has GD had an impact on anything in england? Does anyone have an example?

Ah yeh this is true but it wasnt because we were just going for a 1-0 win like say Arsenal did back in the 'one nil to the arsenal ' days.

Think we need both. A goalscorer to put the ball in the net, but also a CB on those days when the oppoistion gk is doing a superman impression and the ball just doesnt want to go in.

Obviously out scoring the other team is what you want to do, that the point of the game, but sometimes that means outscoring the other team by just one goal.

If you take the horror performance against spurs out of the equation we haven't conceded more than 1 goal in any other game.So the defence isn't that bad and if the strikers had put away just a few of the chances created we wouldn't be having to discuss this and we would most likely be in the top 2.
A clincal finisher is essential IMO because any team can concede a goal but not scoring enough so putting pressure on those at the back

it's a bullshite statement and more propaganda.

the only teams that win things are the sides with top defenses.... as much as for instance barca are lauded actually they also all defend as a team and are pretty mean at the back.

^^^^ THIS is the right answer.

    Prem goals conceded this season:

    Man City 7
    Man Utd 12
    Chelsea 10
    Newcastle 6
    Tottenham 13
    Liverpool 10

    Prem goals scored this season:

    Man City 33
    Man Utd 26
    Chelsea 20
    Newcastle 12
    Tottenham 15
    Liverpool 12

The defence isn't the problem, it's the lack of goals.
