http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11688_7195347,00.html Looks as though the rumour mill is off again. Not sure how long Clayton has on his contract but it would be nice if Mr Bates could have a little chat and ensure he stays a Leeds United player for the foreseeable future.
He signed a 3 year contract last August, so he's still got a year after this season. Hopefully in that time we can do a new deal, but for some reason our club like to leave it until a years left before contract negiotiations open - Gradel, Johnson, Beckford, Kilkenny. Howson, Aidy White, Tom Lees and Sam's contracts are up at the end of this season.
Looking at the clubs showing an interest I can't see them bidding very much, especially Everton who can't even borrow from the bank. As for the four contracts up at the end of the season I presume Mr Bates will be waiting to see where we're going to be playing next season!
I'd say your'e spot on renewing contracts. Bates will be anxious to know if we're still in Championship next season or relegated to division 1 before discussing contracts. Presumably if we go down, he'll probably opt for administration again.
Totally agree we are a selling club run by a unethical business man whose main aim is to get as much money as possible to feed his greed
Clayton out of contract end of this season, he only signed for two years. Would have thought he'd have been offered a new contract by now. Any sniping now by would-be suitors will be to get him to discuss a contract in January, when he is free to talk to anyone. Leeds need to re-sign him now.
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/spieler/vertragsende/basics_GB2.html according to that it expires after this season I hope it is wrong
when that came out that we signed him I thought WTF he is ****!! Im glad hes proved me wrong! I wish more of them would
He looked hopeless against Forest and Derby in his opening games last season. I was thinking 'what have we signed a League One standard midfielder for? And how is a 21-year-old one for the future?' Shows that a bit of determination and hard work in his loan spells and summer training schedule has really paid off. He's another player who's made it clear that it means something to him to be at Leeds - came in and said the club was the biggest he'd played for, always applauds the fans, says we have a right to boo him if he plays badly, and gets stuck in with a passion. Really hope ****head Harvey gets his arse into gear early or it'll be another gem lost.
I don't like it but I can see why we are not rushing to give out large new contracts, its now a buyers market, a lot of clubs are living hand to mouth on their weekly gates and will not be able to offer their best players contracts next summer. Some players will have to go play in France, Turkey or Russia, but a lot will have to accept lower wages and will be glad to get any offer in the Championship. Its not just Leeds where attendance numbers are down, so income is down across the divisions. In the Championship clubs like Cardiff, Forrest and Boro have all spent a lot of money and need to get promoted to survive. Everywhere clubs are saying no to good players. These Premiership players from last year have still not found new clubs. RB Stuart Parnaby CF James McFadden CB Jlloyd Samuel GK Richard Kingson CM Michael Woods (is the grass greener?) CB Sol Campbell LB David Carney So to keep the fans happy, we just need to make a fair offer to our players to stay, if they are greedy let them try thier luck (if all else fails i hear Bristol City offer a basic wage).
I think we all have to accept that every Leeds player has a potential for gaining the club a fee, therefore the club will act as they see fit should another club offer a fee for a player. I can see Clayton moving on in January along with Snoddy, we will get a fee for both and maybe buy a few less able players in to cover, but at least the club will have money in the bank and can keep going, will no doubt be the response.
