It is in todays Echo, very sad. THE teenage son of former Black Cats star Claudio Reyna has lost his battle with cancer. The American midfielder and wife Danielle have been left devastated by the death of 13-year-old Jack. It is understood the youngster, who was born in Scotland while the 38-year-old played for Glasgow Rangers, had been suffering from a paediatric brain tumour for the past three years. Today, Sunderland AFC bosses sent their condolences to the Reyna family, who live in Westchester County, New York. A club spokeswoman said: âNaturally, everyone at Sunderland is desperately saddened to hear this tragic news. âThe thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Claudio and his family at this time.â Claudio, who also captained his national team, made 28 appearances for the Black Cats from 2001 to 2003, although his time at the club was disrupted by injury. Martyn McFadden, editor of Sunderland fanzine A Love Supreme, said: âClaudio did well during his spell at Sunderland and was a likeable guy. âItâs tragic that his son has been taken from him at such a young age. âCancer is such a cruel disease and sadly affects too many of us.â Messages were also posted on the Ready to Go football forum website. âMy deepest condolences go out to the Reyna family,â said one Black Cats supporter. Another added: âThoughts and prayers with Claudio Reyna and his family.â Jackâs death was confirmed on the Rangersâ website and their official Twitter account.
