'Class act' - Former Bristol Rovers goalkeeper and Leeds United fan pays tribute to Bristol City after non-league friendly
Ray Johnston thanked Robins boss Lee Johnson

A former Bristol Rovers goalkeeper - and Leeds United fan - has paid tribute to Lee Johnson and his Bristol City side.

Ray Johnston came through the Gas' youth system and played in one league game before going on to have a long career in non-league football.

He now manages Western League Premier Division side Hallen, who the Robins played in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Putting his allegiances aside, Johnston thanked his opposite number for the professionalism shown in the Robins' 14-0 win.

"I will stop short of wishing them good luck for the season, especially the first game, but people at our level giving it the big one need to look at how top professionals conduct themselves.

    "Class act."

It continues the good feeling between the two clubs that has emanated after the friendly.

He tweeted: "For people that know me, they know this is hard to say.

"Thank you to Lee Johnson and everyone involved for Saturday. I wanted them to all be big time so we could hate them, but the players and staff were classy and complimentary, and nothing short of total professionals throughout.
Robins boss Johnson thanked the non-league club for their hospitality after the game on Saturday.

He said: "First and foremost, fantastic hospitality at Hallen; lovely little setup, it's been perfect for us, the pitch (has worked) ever so well because they've looked after it. Outside the kids have had a lot of fun.

"They've given up three of their changing rooms for us which was very nice. So, brilliant day."

Fair play all round I'd say. It's nice to get compliments like these.
