Clarke on Tuesday nightâs game against Cirencester Town. He said: "If Iâm honest, that game disappointed me, although one or two of the lads did better than the others, but we move on and Iâll be running the rule over five more triallists in the next couple of days. It is difficult to make a judgement on players after eight days of fitness training and one game, but it wouldnât have been fair to delay making decisions on those who featured on Tuesday.â With regard to potential signings, Clarke said: âItâs no secret that I hope to sign four more players a right sided midfield, left sided midfield, a striker and a centre half. Iâm a little bit frustrated I havenât been able to bring anyone else in recently, but thereâs still a month to go before the start of the season. I do have one or two things in the pipeline and I have one or two potential loans lined up for the beginning of the season if I need them. I was hoping to have the majority of my squad in place for next weekâs training camp at the University of South Wales, but thatâs in a perfect world. I have made one or two offers to players but havenât managed to bring any in. Itâs disappointing when you make an offer and he decides his future lies elsewhere for whatever reason.â Taken from the OS... http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/darrells-new-triallists-1737024.aspx
To add to what is on the OS above.... This is taken from the Post.... Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has confirmed that very few of the trialists that played at Cirencester Town on Tuesday night will be extending their stays at the Memorial Stadium. Clarke watched 10 players in a 1-1 draw at the Corinium Stadium and the Post understands that former Bristol City scholar Pierce Mitchell is the one of only two players that was asked to report for training at Cribbs Causeway this morning. Goalkeeper Craig Ross, who impressed after pulling off a string of decent first-half saves, was considered a possible, but Clarke was priced out of a deal for a player who was only predominantly going to be back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall. It is also understood that goal scorer Lawson D’Ath, who was recently released by Reading, has gone on trial at a League One club. Clarke, who welcomed four new hopefuls to the training ground this morning, said: “There aren’t many of the lads from Tuesday night coming back. It is very hard for trialists to impress in such a short space of time and I have to be honest and say that the game at Cirencester was a bit disappointing from my point of view. One or two did better than the others and there may be one or two that we could offer an extended stay with a view to them earning an extended deal. We also have a couple of new trialists in at training today to have a look at so we quickly move on.” http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristo...s-quick/story-21446907-detail/story.html?7899
So out of the 10 trialist, 2 impressed over the 8 days of training and the game time at Cirencester. Mitchell (CB) and another who for some reason wasnt disclosed. We know 2 of the remaining 9 trialist (Ross and D'Ath) will not be returning as mentoned above so I wonder who the other trialist is. Its a shame about Ross and D'Ath because what I have read about these 2, they would be good signings.
