Supporters are encouraged to join in with a special minute’s applause which will take place during the Tigers’ Barclays Premier League home game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The applause will be in memory of loyal Hull City supporter Conor Ledger who died at the age of just 18 on Boxing Day, and will begin when the clock ticks over to 18:00 minutes.

Conor, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after he was born, had supported the Tigers all of his life, attending his first game when he was eight years old and he was a regular at both the KC Stadium and on the road where he became a familiar face on Tiger Travel.

Unfortunately, Conor was admitted to hospital in mid-November with a chest infection and although he fought bravely to make it back home for Christmas, he was readmitted on Boxing Day and passed away a short time later.

He is now set to be honoured with a minute’s applause and Conor’s mum, Gill, who will be at the KC Stadium for Saturday’s match, admitted it will be a fitting way to remember her son.

“We are really pleased that the Club has chosen to pay its respects to Conor in this way,” she said.

“He lived for the football club and if he ever missed a game, we knew he must have been feeling really ill. He would be so proud.”

Speaking on behalf of the Club, James Mooney, Marketing & Communications Manager, added: “Conor was a familiar face to many at matches both home and away and having attended his funeral on behalf of the Club, it was obvious how much this football club meant to him.

“We would encourage all supporters attending the game against Newcastle United on Saturday to clap for Conor on 18 minutes. We are proud to have been able to call Conor part of our footballing family and we want his family to know that we are all here to support them through this very difficult time.”

The minute’s applause for Conor will follow on from Newcastle United’s own minute of applause in memory of supporters John Alder and Liam Sweeney, who were killed when flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine last July. Mr Alder and Mr Sweeney were on their way to watch their favourite team play pre-season fixtures in New Zealand when the tragedy happened.

Supporters of both clubs are encouraged to participate in both moments of applause.

James Mooney called me with details of this yesterday morning.

Pictures of the Newcastle lads will appear on the big screen on 17 minutes, a picture of Conor will then appear at 18 minutes, but will disappear on 19 minutes, with a view to the City Till I Die chant at 19.04 taking place as normal.

It seems Conor was a big CTWD supporter and as a consequence, the club are more than happy for the three to run concurrently.

The Newcastle fans are also being informed of what is happening.

Terrible that CTWD are getting in the way of honouring these folks, utterly shameful, bla bla bla....

How come the Newcastle ones taking place? It was ages ago. Not that I object it just seems a bit strange unless I'm missing something?

Great idea. I think it should be standing. So those that sit normally can stand for the two minutes applause before sitting back down. More effective seeing the stadium rise.

Very touching that as he was laid in hospital his thoughts were with his mother and he made sure a friend got a
Christmas present for her. So sad a decent lad like that goes and we have to read daily of scumbags being given chance after chance.

Ah right. Without wanting to sound brash, does no one else think that's a bit much? Every single game?

Who agrees to standing to applaud? If we do it dotted throughout the stadium, others will join in.

I'd be surprised if anyone was expecting to do it sat down. Even with day trippers at Wembley pretty much everyone stood for the applause for the Bradford victims. (A few didn't know what it was for to start with but stood once they found out)

slight edit - confusing a semi and final tributes

good gesture, not much can be said really

and if the geordies want to to that for those two fans, fair enough..

i couldn't imagine two city fans dieing on the way to see us play.. although there wasn't too much about billy fletcher who died on the way to see us at barnsley, rip to the young lad, still such a tragic event

Mum’s pride over ‘minute’s applause’ at Hull City game in memory of son Conor Ledger, 18

please log in to view this image

THE mum of a teenage cystic fibrosis sufferer who died on Boxing Day has expressed her pride after she was told a minute's applause will take place at Hull City's game tomorrow.

Conor Ledger was just 18 when he died in Hull Royal Infirmary after battling the inherited disease, which affects the lungs and digestive system.

The Hull City-mad teenager had been on a trip to Amsterdam when he suffered a chest infection in November, from which he never recovered.

Supporters are now being encouraged to join in with the minute's applause during the Tigers' Premier League home game against Newcastle United.

The applause will begin in the 18th minute to mark the age at which Conor died.

Conor, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after he was born, had supported Hull City all of his life, attending his first game when he was eight years old. He was a regular at both the KC Stadium and at away matches.

Conor, of Cropton Road, west Hull, was admitted to hospital in mid-November with a chest infection and, although he fought bravely to make it back home for Christmas, he was readmitted on Boxing Day, and died later that day.

Conor's mum Gill, who will be at the KC Stadium for Saturday's match, said it will be a fitting way to remember her son.

She said: "We are really pleased that the club has chosen to pay its respects to Conor in this way. It is unbelievable.

"He lived for the football club and if he ever missed a game, we knew he must have been feeling really ill.

"Conor would have been so proud and wouldn't believe people would go this length for him. He will be up there applauding with everyone else.

"I will be there and it is going to be a very emotional day. I will be so proud."

James Mooney, Hull City marketing and communications manager, was inspired to do something to remember Conor after attending his funeral, which had a Hull City theme.

He said: "Conor was a familiar face to many at matches, both home and away, and, having attended his funeral on behalf of the club, it was obvious how much this football club meant to him.

"We would encourage all supporters attending the game against Newcastle United on Saturday to clap for Conor on 18 minutes.

"We are proud to have been able to call Conor part of our footballing family and we want his family to know we are all here to support them through this difficult time."

Conor went to Thoresby Primary School and then Kelvin Hall Secondary School before embarking on a bricklaying course at Bishop Burton College.

The above post proves, if proof was needed, that you know nothing at all about this young lad.
