League One leaders Bristol City have reported a trading loss of £9.2m for the year ending 31 May 2014. A club statement said sales for the period were down £3.9m as a result of relegation from the Championship under former manager Sean O'Driscoll. However, City's operating costs were lowered by 29%, including a salary reduction of £5.5m.
I am not fully in tune with the fair play aspects but guess that must be good? as WE HAVE AN EVEN SMALLER SQUAD THIS SEASON and so it must impact in our favour for results 2015! and the loss incurred all the or some of the stadium fiasco building plans etc which wont show next year unless it was part carried over..always helps when doing acounts
That's quite a loss, considering the squad was downsized. Our costs will only go up next season, so I'll be very interested in how the board look to bring Bristol City into the black. Frankly, even when the stadium is done I reckon the club will still be incurring significant losses, and after we lost Ashton Vale it doesn't look like anyone would want to take over Bristol City as the sheer lack of development in this city is bound to put people off.
It is very difficult for the layman to understand the finances of the various organisations involved here. The ground for example is not owned by the Football Club. I would have thought that the arrival of the Rugby would have helped but I hear that some of the players are on nearly £5k a week. The bottom line is that the absurd wages paid to the players make such businesses unsustainable. In this respect we must be grateful to Mr Lansdown. However the days of him writing cheques are now gone and we it appears must now cut our cloth . In this respect admission prices will pro rata increase.
Remeber these finances are year ENDING MAY 2014. The downsized squad came after that, and all the ground work. I would think we've reduced the cost loads by the year ending May 2015
