Slade has taken the club as far as he possibly can. The real reasons why I feel the club need and its fans deserve a new manager are because his decisions on team selection and tactics this season have been poor, and the football drab, with too many goalless games, too many late goals conceded and not enough late goals scored. Admittedly he was hindered by the injuries to 3 of our most important players against Wednesday but the set up was just all wrong. Why wasn't Lawrence on the pitch or even Harris, why was there no striker on the bench; surely Healy would've been a better bet than no striker. Slade has never taken a club to promotion in nearly 750 games as manager and he is completely unlikely to take City into the Premier League. What is needed desperately is a fresh outlook on the playing staff and the style of football as we supporters surely deserve better than what we've had to put up with this season and last with so many poor and dull games at the City Stadium. However decision will be Mr Tan's and his alone; if he has no desire to pump more money into the club then I suspect he will stick with Mr Slade. Basically if Tan wants to err on the safe side then he will probably stick with Slade and hope that City luck out with a top six finish but is that really realistic given what's happened this season?where would the ambition be in that? I really hope that someone can persuade him to source a dynamic manager from anywhere really, there are plenty of them floating around, and bring some attacking and high-tempo football back to the club not seen since the Dave Jones days. Even if that doesn't bring promotion, the thought of endless Tuesday nights watching a drab nil nil performance or a cold December afternoon watching us struggle to a one nil win does not fill me with much enthusiasm. What are other peoples views on their what city should do next season with a manager?
Exactly the same as yours Ninian. The phrase "bore a glass eye to sleep" sums up the last season in my view and the inability to at least put on a fighting performance in such a key game as last Saturday just emphasises the underlying issues we have seen over the last 9 months.
I've made mine quite clear on here recently Nin. I was dubious when Slade was brought in to succeed Ole after just 8 games last season. I suppose the disappointment of not going for Pulis at the time had something to do with it, but since then I've become convinced he is leading this club nowhere on the pitch. After a burst of home wins after he joined - I still remember that awful game at Blackpool just before he did - it seemed that Tan had out-thought us and pulled a masterstroke. Sadly it wasn't long before the dour dreadful stuff became the norm and tactically inept decisions by him and Young dragged us back to reality. In all honesty it has been a sad season this year on the pitch. The game against Brighton and then away at the Wurzels gave us some hope of a decent finish to snatch a playoff place. It was perfectly possible after we took 4 points off Derby and Burnley but then along came the Fulham game. That was the benchmark for the season - tactically inept and a lack of management skills to ensure the game was killed off after we took the lead. The final half dozen games were a disaster. The rest is history and Slade should also be confined to it.
Well at Sheffield on Saturday and the performance was by far the worst i have seen this season. The team was a shambolic mess with no leadership or direction. No tactics at all, some of the players were little better than league 2 standards, those being Malone and Zohore, who were both abysmal even Marshall turned himself into the court jester for the second goal, thankfully by the time they scored the third we were half across Hillsborough park on the way back to the car. The team needs a new energy and leadership. So from me and i dont like saying it but....Slade has to be replaced. He is a damn good bookkeeper but a clueless football manager.
I think Tan missed a trick back in January. He could have moved Slade upstairs & appointed Bellamy in a caretaker role until the end of the season. We were in no danger of being relegated and Bellamy could have been assessed by his performance over the rest of the season. If he proved to be out of his depth then no real damage done. A decent assault on a play off place & appoint him full time.
I think that event is rapidly approaching - within the next month or so. However, Wiki says a 2 year contract from October 2014. I hope that is incorrect as I can't imagine a football giving a manager's contract expiring mid-season and it should read a 2 season contract ending May 2016!!!!
He contract definitely expires this summer, it's been reported in the media and talked about by Slade himself. The nature of the Wednesday defeat was a real dent in Slade's case to be given another season. My gut instinct is he'll be let go this summer. I'm still scared of what might happen next though. Bellamy would be a massive gamble, we need a safer appointment than that imo.
Hate to say I told you so but........I TOLD YOU SO no offence guys but we over achieved with a mediocre manager, perhaps this indicates the willingness of the players, in spite of the coaches.....oh and get rid of Scott Young as well?
Looks a pretty unanimous verdict on the first part of the question. Sorry Russell, please follow the exit signs and pick up your P.45 on the way. The second bit may not be so easy. Will VT gamble on someone like Bellers or go for a proven manager with a modern, progressive outlook?
Scott Young should be told to don his club blazer and do the pre match hospitality. Or go and manage Taffs Well FC.
