I mean literally... He’s 14 ffs!! https://thisisfutbol.com/2019/02/blogs/premier-league/man-city-close-to-signing-morten-spencer/ Tried to copy the text on my iPad but it won’t work so here’s a snippet:
We've had him 6 years already. Why can't City develop their own homegrown players instead of taking other teams then letting them rot? Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
Unfortunately the position we are in its a good few bob and I would imagine both him and his family will struggle to turn down Man C.
Rumours this is the lad who made the (false) nonce accusation, to try push through the move. If true, better off without.
Has it been shown to be false? I honestly don't know. The position we are in, 200k upfront and a decent sell-on clause for a 14 year old, isn't the worst bit of business. If he comes off at CIty. He could give us a lottery win one day.
Ignoring the bit about unproven accusations and who may, or may not, have made them, where is the footballing logic in this? We are starting to regain our reputation for developing our young talent and giving them the chance to make a name for themselves through first team opportunities. Whatever City's claims are about wanting more UK born youngsters, their first reaction to any perceived weakness is to sign a ready made 'Superstar'. I'm no expert on Man City but I can't remember the last home produced player that was a first team regular. On the other hand they will no doubt pay more. But that may be little consolation if the boy doesn't make it. If his parents and whoever they might turn to for advice have any sense the only question they need ask is, where will the boy get the best chance to make the grade. If they decide that Manchester is the place, fair enough, though I wouldn't agree with them.
This is why we are so against B Teams or any other banner U23's they wish to portray them under in the lower leagues. My own club chairman has bitter memories on how stuff like this pans out and you will get no support from the EFL... https://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/chelsea-deal-for-ryan-bertrand-s-a64742/ It worked out slightly better than expected, as even after that article (some seven years later) Bertrand did well for himself, but the money we received as add-ons was never anything like what we should have received from greedy Prem clubs creating pools of players.
Well if the check-a-trade has proved anything yet again is that 90% of under 21s just can't cut it with fully grown seniors. So don't thick there's much danger of further inclusion. In other competitions any time soon. On monies I think the club's who bring them though should be entitled to lifetime percentages of any transfer fee and signing on fees of any new contract once they leave the club no matter what age when they leave.
