This seems plain daft IF true.
Unless Mike is using the Carroll barometer of valuations........

Just how badly do Newcastle United want to keep Papiss Cisse?

Manchester City had been linked with his signature over the last fortnight to address their injury problems, but it's been reported that the Toon will only sell at a crazy price.

The Star report: "Pellegrini was keen on Papiss Cisse and believed he could land the Newcastle hitman on the cheap.

"But he has been put off by the Magpies’ staggering £35m asking price and has turned to Mandzukic as he represents a better deal."

Cisse had struggled for form last two seasons - especially last, but this year he has been a player reborn.

The striker, who lit up the Premier League in his first season with 13 goals in 14 matches, has been revitalised, but it's arguably the best time to cash in.

While selling a key player may not be well received by the club, if they were able to get a top price for him, based on his poor displays a year ago, they would have to consider it.

Demanding £35 million however, the same price they sold Andy Carroll for, is quite another matter, and it's no wonder Manchester City are looking elsewhere.

It may simply show their resolve to hold onto him, but really a fee of £20 million would have been great business.

Even £20 million is way over the top for a striker who really does blow hot and cold. We'd be lucky to get £10 million.

If Mike Ashley gets 35 million for this guy then I take back everything I said about him, he would be a god among men!

<laugh> I think Mike is getting a bit carried away by those recent goals per minute stats.

Speaking of blowing... I was at York station yesterday waiting for my train back and I kept standing by the edge of the platform.... eventually a station employee told me to move back behind the line so I told him I'd heard than there's a danger you may get sucked off if you stand too close to the edge.
I'm always up for a bit of danger....

To be fair it's probably better than the goals per minutes stats of the Newcastle team.

If they sold for say 20 million for most clubs we would say 'Good money but reinvestment is essential' but we know that won't happen with us and we will probably attempt to limp like a battle damaged ship to a safe May port from the possible sanguinary sea of relegation.

He's not even worth £5M! In fact for £5M city can have him and Riviere and Williamson and Gouffran. Oh go on then, I will chuck in Pardew as well!

Perhaps the £35m fee was to soften the blow of Newcastle United losing Alan Pardew to Rangers next year?

The only discuss on this matter is who we would bring additional quality to the team before he was even though about selling him

If Newcastle do in fact get 35M for Cisse, it would them in a good position where they could add another 5M and buy Altidore from Sunderland

If he goes for 35p, £35 or £35m it will make no difference. The money won't be re-invested in the team so whatever happens it will be an overal negative deal for the team but a positive deal for the club, i.e. the chairman.
