Why do you think he has traditionally been seen as back up? As far as I can see he should be one of the 1st names on the team sheet right now and tbh he has been a fantastic signing for us. I was talking to an Arsenal fan at work and we were saying that they are desparate for a proper honest good all round defender like that but it would never happen because he's not fashionable enough which is absolutely rediculous.
Maybe because with a fit Lejuene and Schar he realistically would be behind them but for current form. It's less about Clark, more about the options we have at CB. Ive been a fan of Clark since he was at Villa but can't pretend I haven't seen plenty of posters on here refer to him as a Championship player since we went up.
Enough about David Luiz!! With regards to Clark, he's not at the same level at Lejuene or Schar so is viewed as the next level. What probably hasn't helped him is that he's been used as make shift LB which has allowed the others at CB to form some sort of partnership. What we do have is decent cover across the back, Lascelles, Lejuene, Schar, Fernandez, Clark, Dummett, over the past 2 season's we have picked up a lot of injuries, yet been able to maintain a consistant shape.
Skill? yes, passion? no. Regarding Clark, he's always getting knocks and injured. It's hampered his career.
Yeah he shouts a lot, and does fistpumps like Steven Taylor, but he's not that good (also like Taylor)
