Looks like my thread on films will be another stonking success so the next logical step is to take a delve into the phenomenon of Christmas Songs.

Are you a fan of the traditional carols? Do you like a crooner? How about a bit of Phil Spector or 70's Glam Rock to get your toes a tapping at this time of year?

I will state again for the record (no pun intended) that I cannot stand that awful dirge Fairytale of New York but appreciate I am very much in a minority as it keeps getting voted as the best Christmas Song, it can go on the list as I am a magnanimous sort of citizen.

    Where's Jona Lewie?

Stop the Cavalry is the answer you're looking for.

I reckon my top 10 would look something like this

    Sleigh Ride - The Ronnettes
    2000 Miles - The Pretenders
When A Child Is Born - Johnny Mathis
    Winter Wonderland - Darlene Love
Santa Claus is Back in Town - Elvis
Driving Home For Christmas - Chris Rea
In Dulc Jubilo - Mike Oldfield
I Believe in Father Christmas - Greg Lake
Stop the Cavalry - Jona Lewie
All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey

A lot of old schmaltz that most of the time I wouldn't even give house room to but a

The actual tune is quite pleasant, I like the penny whistle vibe but it takes a dive when that pissed up Mick starts drawling and the fat ginger with the flattest tone since Leonard Cohen chirps in and says scumbag, maggot, faggot (homophobic) and arse which seems to be why so many twats have a little sex wee every time it comes on the radio.

Pretty sure that actually happened, on some radio stations anyway.
