Having not lived in England for many years there are things you miss but one thing that I would never miss is the same old selection of ****e Christmas records played by all and sundry. Now nearly every artist has at some time or other made a Christmas record but you still get spoon fed ****e like Slade, Greg Lake & Shakin ****ing Stevens. So this thread is for all the stuff they don’t play. Post yours
You don't get Slade or Shaking Stevens in the US. As a result when I hear Slade playing on a British show or film I get nostalgic. Whoever Greg Lake is, I've completely forgotten him. Update: Googled Greg Lake, found his father Xmas song...holy crap... Haven't heard that song in over 20 years. Didn't recognise it at first. The riff between verses is what made me remember it.
A lot of the traditional songs don't exist over here either. No "in the bleak midwinter", kids don't sing "Little Donkey". Instead they play Greensleeves, which isn't a Christmas song. They get the melody for away in a manger wrong too.
****ing hate xmas songs with a passion. Don't mind a bit of Nat King Cole, because it reminds me of watching my Nan and Grandad dancing together at christmas, but in general they are utter ****. That ****ing Slade song honestly makes me want to kick some some old Granny in the chuff.
I used to love Xmas music. Until I married someone who starts playing it nonstop starting in October.
Out the popular ones I only like Jona Lewie and The Fairytale of New York. The rest can **** right off.
