Christian Eriksen has declared his future at Spurs is not dependent on the club reaching the Champions League.

Despite the club's crushing 5-1 win over Sunderland on Monday night they remain outsiders for the top four behind Everton and Arsenal.

It has thrown up doubts that the north Londonders will hold on to keeper Hugo Lloris and defender Jan Vertonghen.

But 22-year-old Eriksen insists he is staying.

The Dane, who made two goals and scored another on Monday night, said: "'For me the feeling I have at the club isn't dependant on being in the Champions League, I'm happy here and am looking forward to the future.

"Our aim now is to win all our matches so that we end the season with some confidence ahead of next year and if we do that we can see where it takes us in the table."

He's the sort of player that we should be making a key part of our side. <ok>

Any other former Ajax players want to follow his lead?

That's good. He's probably been the best of our signings, so far. I just hope we don't get a similar declaration from Naughton now!...

If he wanted to be in the CL he'd have stayed at Ajax. He seems like a level headed guy so I'm not surprised he realises that moving clubs every season isn't a good idea. He's loyal too, remember he'd told Ajax that he'd sign a contract for another year if he didn't get a move last summer because he didn't want to leave on a free after all Ajax had done for him.

Just need Vertonghen and Lloris to do the same now :D

Who said he could leave even if he wanted? :) None of the top clubs in Europe went for Eriksen but they all looked at him so he needs to prove himself before he could gain a move to a bigger club.

  7. He'd walk into 'Pool's first team, and yet he clearly wouldn't want to.

He clearly sees this year as a mere blip for the mighty Spurs, and that next year will be business as usual for us.

I think Lloris will go but his attitude and effort have been spot on so I dont feel the same about him

    Good man.

If we truly get LVG this Summer, then building our team round Eriksen would be a great start

I think our defence needs a lot of work in the summer and he's our best defender so I'd rather we kept him. I can see Kaboul leaving and even if he doesn't his injury record means we need 5 centre backs and we'll need 2 new fullbacks too so I think it's important we keep Jan. Also, I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt, he's never thrown a strop before and it might be he's just been frustrated with his own poor form and mistakes. It's not like with Ade where he's fallen out with every manager he's had for over a season.

We need a big name manager to encourage top players to join but also to keep the players we already have.

    Completely agree.

Vertonghen is our best centre back by a mile and we need to keep our best players.

Yes, it's what I have said too. It would be a statement of intent to players like Vertonghen that we mean business. Otherwise, I fear he's not the only one who will want out come summertime.

His says that now, but if we feel like bidding, I'm sure his head will turn.

And if he was sensible, he'd see that Liverpool already have their version of Eriksen in Mr Coutinho.

You obviously haven't been paying attention for the last couple of summers, have you? Sigurdsson and Eriksen ring any bells?
