Good move all round. Ipswich get a very good striker and Wood gets some games. If we stay up hopefully they will have bumped his price tag up for us to sell him and if we go down we will have a striker who had a bit of form heading into the new season If we go down we will need Wood, Nugent and Vardy as I think Ulloa and Kramaric will leave
I havn't seen anything to suggest that Ulloa and Kramaric are clambering to leave? No reason that we'd sell them, they will still have ages left on their contracts.
Kramaric would only sign for us if we put a relegation release clause in his contract so I can't see him sticking around in the Championship Ulloa has proven he can score goals in the premier league so I'm sure another premier league side or someone from La Liga where Ulloa has played before would be willing to take him
And this is precisely why I don't understand why some folk think we are certainties to come straight back up if we get relegated. Even if players are on long contracts it won't stop them leaving and we don't want players who don't want to play for us.
If we go down I think the only players we would have to worry about losing would be Kramaric, Mahrez, Cambiasso, Ulloa, Schmeichel and Schlupp. Knockaert aswell because of his contract Everyone else hasn't set the world on fire enough to get clubs queuing up for them and they are all down on long term deals meaning the clubs is in a strong position to keep them. If we keep Nigel then I think we won't lose too much of the squad
We don't know the circumstances of any releases clauses that may exist. I'm sure we won't be stupid enough to allow them to go for less than they signed for, so it will come down to a team matching or surpassing what we paid. If nobody comes in for them, they won't be going anywhere. Honestly, I think you have to be pretty stupid to sign for a club at the bottom of the Prem and not think there's a chance you'll be playing in the Championship next season (in Kramaric's case) and Ulloa's no stranger to that league anyway. And have they really justified a near £20m combined price tag yet? I'm not so sure. Ulloa's not even getting into the first team anymore.
I can see why he's going with one up when we are away ... but I suspect we might see the pair playing together in our forthcoming home fixtures ...
Yes, I too assume that's what he's planning. At least I hope so, it would be madness to play five at the back at home, especially against Hull! But my point still stands on Ulloa. He's clearly not considered to be undroppable here, which does make you wonder if we would be inundated with offers if we go down,
By that logic Wes Morgan must be our most valuable player. He is clearly undroppable. Ulloa is a decent striker if you give him the right service. But if you aren't going to play to his strengths or provide any decent chances for him then he's going to look very ordinary. I wonder if we'll be inundated with offers from chairmen of other clubs for Pearson.
If Pearson leaves or is sacked by Leicester he'll be snapped up immediately, I have absolutely no doubt about that. People seem to forget that it was only very recently that there has been any real competition for Morgan's place. Moore was being run ragged earlier in the season, which some fans have conveniently forgotten, which left just Morgan and Wassa. The signing of Huth and the belated debut of Upson coincided with Pearson changing the defence to a back five to try to become harder to beat during this tough run of away fixtures. As discussed above, it will become really interesting when we go back to a four, which many expect after the Man City game. Like many, I'll be disappointed - but not surprised - if he does stick with Morgan. He is the captain for a reason though, and Pearson obviously sees qualities in him that we might not. Pearson was a very decent defender himself and he doesn't strike me as the type of man to have favourites. Quite frankly, I don't think he cares who he upsets in his quest to do what he considers to be the best for our club, and that includes Morgan. If he picks him, he believes he's the best option. And I'm not saying Ulloa has looked "ordinary", but has he shown managers of other Prem clubs he's worth spending £10m or more on? If I were an opposition manager, I don't think I'd rate it at any more than £5m. Quite honestly, I'll be happy to recoup our £8-10m on him or keep him. I just don't want us to make a loss, which I don't think we will do.
I'd agree that Nigel Pearson would not be out of a job for long if we were to sack him ... but I doubt it would be a new job in the Prem. I could see Sheff Wed or somebody similar with new found ownership coming in - he's shown he can take a team up after all... ironically therefore I also think he will indeed be sacked if we get relegated. I also think Leo Ulloa would be a very attractive proposition for a lower half Prem side or perhaps better if someone was looking for a 'target man' option ... if you look at who he has scored against from open play he has an impressive record ... Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Spurs (twice), Villa ... household names in the English game ... compare that to Charlie Austin's record for instance ... Leo's confidence has suffered a bit - for me because the rather poor service has meant that he has had to come far too deep to get the ball ... if you can get crosses on to the penalty spot from wide he is a formidable weapon .... I hope we can hold on to him whichever division we are in next time around.
I can't remember Leo missing many chances this season. He has suffered from a lack of decent service but when ever the service has been good Leo has scored goals
Again, regarding Ulloa, I'm not saying he's not good enough at this level, simply that, if I were an opposition manager, I wouldn't rate him at £10m from what I've seen this season. Whether it's his fault, the manager's or the service he's received is neither here nor there, I just think if I had £10m to spend, I'd look at our options first. I don't think clubs will be queuing up to snatch him from us in the summer - I may be wrong, but as I said, I don't mind either way as long as we don't lose money on him.
I think there will be a lot of interest in Ulloa from abroad. If you can score goals in the Premier League then you can anywhere. He has already played in Spain in the past so I think there will be a few team looking at him there
