    What a fantastic man.
He'll be England Manager at some stage in his career.I hope after he's cemented us as Prem regulars.!

For the respect he got whilst he was a player on the pitch, for the work he did as the PFA Chairman for all those years and for the respect he's now getting as a Manager he should have been given an award long ago.

Knighthood / OBE / MBE, Doesnt matter - HIS services to Football have been much more than what Steven Gerrard or David Beckham have EVER done

Tremendous article - not sure if Mick Collins is a supporter or not, but always writes well about us. Great photographs as well.

The story about the train trip to Hartlepool is astonishing - the first time I've heard that, and harks back to Garry Nelson's Left Foot Forward and some of the trips to games in his old car.

    Thanks for posting, AllHell. <ok>

    Yeh I think so :emoticon-0100-smile

I think so far this season its been Brentford, Colchester and MKDonalds who have all moaned about our squad "value", everyone else have just said they wished they had our quality

Mick is a Charlton fan - didnt he use to write on the OS for a while ? or is it his son ?

I love the quote at the end ' What happens if a big club comes in' - 'they have' - brilliant !

Not often that there's an article I like from the daily malice, but this is an exception.

Great piece and great end quote by Sir Chris.

He is a fantastic supporter. If you want a good background to our latest glory years read his book The Rise and Rise of Charlton Athletic: From Portakabins to Porto Captains.

It covers about ten years and was published before our recent demise, so great to read with hindsight.

Makes ya proud! A Brentford pal of mine replied "Well so would we be if we could pay a million quid for a striker" when I celebrated being 10 points clear. The URL for this article shall be sent to him promptly ;-)
