Hopefully that'll shut up the delusional contingent... Congrats on staying up, and having a good manager, even if some of you can't see the wood for the trees.
The jury is largely out, this performance today is the best I have seen for over a year. 2 wins in 20 games is not ideal and the football has been very boring. Hughton can build his team for next season, but things need to improve.
I've been disappointed with some of our performances and results, but I never doubted Hughton. Some times a manager is at fault (like Mark Hughes at QPR for example) But it's not the case for us. We have a manager who knows what he's doing and can bring stability to our club, also improving our squad.
No, because I'm not stupid. How much has Chris had to spend, how much has been spent under Pardew? In the end, they've achieved the same. On paper, that's a terrible result for Pardew and a coup for Chris. Norwich pay championship wages, and tend to buy their players largely from championship clubs, I think it's weird that some of you are so into Norwich you can't see it. But then, football support isn't about being rational or fair is it? Give Chris time and just a bit of funding, and you'll see a capable manager deliver steady progression. He's done it everywhere else he's managed, and all the actual football fans know it. Norwich have some of the best fans in the league, it's a shame some spoil it for others by not giving the most respectable man in the whole division what he's due
Equally though for Pardew couldn't you argue he has some big mitigating factors? The Europa league run gave you loads more games to contend with, and you've had some pretty big injury problems if I remember rightly. Granted with the money you'd expect a greater return, but you must be pretty well set for next season?
I'm proud to say I've never once left Chrissy's side this season, Gandalf, even when some people were, perhaps understandably, losing their heads around me. Well done on staying up by the way, the Premier League wouldn't be the Premier League without Newcastle.
It's interesting that people are saying that there have been very few good performances, but there has been an upturn, not often for the whole match but in recent weeks, Swansea, Reading, Sunderland, Arsenal, WBA. The tide is turning with a very average squad, with some quality added; just wait and see IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE
As someone who did not have Hughton as first choice there is a fair bit of truth in that post.Staying up was sucess, finishing any higher than 17th is a bonus.
I was thinking that too. Of late the tactics have been pretty good. The Ruddy/Bunn and Whittaker/Garrido debates aside, the side he's sent out in the last few games is exactly how I'd have picked it. Howson has been far better lately too, so perhaps Hughton was right to show some faith in him. Also, Mancini appears to have been sacked.
Absolutely, and I don't think Pardew is a terrible manager. I think he's pretty good actually, but he's not pulling in the same direction as the board and doesn't get the best of the players the hierarchy are looking to bring in. If he stays, he can do a good job, but only if he signs the right kind of players for his footballing philosophy, which is very English and a little old-fashioned, but still has some currency in this league. Injuries haven't helped, but we played the reserves in nearly every Europa game so that certainly isn't an excuse for the manager, or more specifically the players, who above all have been very poor this season. That's partly on Pardew, and as I say, the different direction he's pulling in. Exactly, very well put. I understand the turgid argument, but when you're at the bottom "effective" football is needed so that you can build on it later. Hughton's first half season at Newcastle was pretty dire to watch, but effective. Same at Birmingham. But in both cases he set up the platform to play better. It's frustrating that some canaries fans haven't done their homework, or don't watch anything other than Norwich games, and criticise Hughton at this point. This is but the dawn. Overall, I'd be thoroughly optimistic as a Canaries fan right now. Stayed up, mission accomplished. Now it's time to build on that and feed off the good structure at the club. Already one class player on the way!
The thing that rankles me with Hughton is the form since Christmas. You can't argue that it has been poor and when we have games with no shots on target it's worrying. I am not going to change my opinion on him due to this game, frankly I am undecided whether he should be kept in the job. I've said all along he will have next season anyway, but we would really like to see us improve our style of football. I would love to achieve stability under Hughton with a nice brand of football, whether or not that'll be the case will not be apparent until next season and onwards now.
Has a manager ever come into a club and immediately delivered a nice brand of football?! Has it ever taken two seasons? Very very rarely, and only in circumstances where good adaptable players exist(so usually a top club anyway). Chris has no chance with you if you don't recognise that, and I think that's very unfair. I see Chris improving the style of play gradually, and that's what I'd want and expect if I were a Norwich fan. I hope his signings are in the mould of the Wolf across the board.
Some people are willing to give Chris Hughton time to build a side based on balanced football Some want us to get Ian Holloway in Empty Vessels make the loudest noise.
Firstly, the matter of good or bad never comes in to it when those of us unhappy with NCFC's performances have expressed our discontent. I am sick and tired that we have been called disloyal, plastic (even the Norwich board has tedious little children) and wanting to see the club relegated. That is because most of the ones doing the slandering haven't read the posts correctly or don't have the ability to read them. Most of the silly criticism has come from people who because of their immaturity, have no right to call our thoughts into question. Disagree with them by all means but do it for a reason other than your inability to put a reasoned argument together to convince us otherwise means the slagging off starts. The more "senior" guys on here who have disagreed have done so with a bit of grace. Now for the very last time. We are delighted that we stayed up. Despite the immorality of the league itself, we are delighted to be in the top tier of English football. We are quite willing to accept Chris Hughton as our manager and hope he goes on to be the greatest and most successful in NCFC history. But we hope that is playing the kind of football that we played today. The kind of football that produced our fourth magnificent goal. We do not want to see any more of the dire defensive tripe that has been served up since Christmas. Today was like a breath of fresh air. It was attacking, flowing and successful. So if CH thought that was the way to get a win today, why didn't he think so against other sides recently? Grant Holt has just told the world that he has come under unfair criticism for not scoring but it has been down to the managers defensive style and has left him (Holt) frustrated. The BBC commentator said "who had stolen the real Norwich for all those weeks". Some of us want successful football, but not at any price. Lets hope today was a turning point. Some have said the manager will be different next season when he has his own players. Lets hope they are right. We move on and the slate is clean until next season.
I want to see what Hughton can do. Today is proof of how a 4-2-3-1 can work if it is played properly with the wingers getting forward. Come on Hughton! Build your own team and show us!
I think he could have left off where Lambert got the team to a degree, bring some better personell in defence (which he did) but than he started chaining down some of our attacking players which logically didn't make sense. We had a better defence which means we could afford to attack as we did last season especially as we had more capable attacking fullbacks and two defensive midfielders playing in the team. I hope he can improve it myself, my problem has been the negativity in some games which has cost us. I don't want to go into it too much as it's a day to celebrate for us, but my opinions won't change following this game. Although today was a very positive attacking game I hope Hughton continues it into next season.
Not in my book, you cannot just forget the past 4 months because we won ONE game convincingly. In fact, because of the performance today it proved what an adverse effect he has had on the team. Even I felt pleased for him when I saw his face at the end of the game, but I'd still have him straight out the door. The post match interview, we've just avoided relegation and he was STILL bleating about how good West Brom are. It just reeks of what he's about an I just don't trust him.
