Hi guys, Just cant get my head around this guy, Is he egotistic, Is he doing whats best for him or our National Football team? Its been generally accepted that we moved on under GS, and that Osain R and Ray V, played a major part in our improvement. However it seems that CC does not want to share the potential success with his coaching team and made ( in my opinion ) a rather rash statement: "I don't want a number two that's standing beside me or inching in front of me. If they want that, go and become a number one somewhere." about someone that seemed to be held in rather high regard with our players? I fear that by making statements of this type he may lose the "changing room" and that players will unexplainably have "slight injuries" ruling them out of games? I hope that Mr Coleman can find the same inspirational statements for his players as easy as he finds statements that ridicule former employees who helped, move us forward? Purely suggestive stuff guys but I think he "talks the talk" dont think he,s capable of "walking the walk?"
I think he meant it as that's the reason Ray left - he wanted too much control perhaps? It's fair enough for a manager to want authority or he'll just be undermined somewhere along the lines. I think CC is a good manager but time will tell whether he's successful and can build on Gary's success. Under the circumstances he's in a lose-lose situation anyway but I'm going to be behind him all the way.
We will be able to see if he is accepted by the players in the coming months. How many players will cry off with 'injuries' as most of them did prior to Gary Speeds appointment.
i think he has come in and wants to do things his way, thats his right, i would question the decision to force verheijen out and bring in symons, he is clearly his own man and comes across as a focussed guy. its a results business, i dont think there can be excuses made this time round. we have several top players so although we have a very difficult group, i'd back the players we have to finish 3rd/ 4th, and that would be a success given how far we've come. key to his chances will be convincing bellamy to stay on. gut feeling is that he will retire from internationals but the flipside would be that bale could play left mid, would be a big loss if he does retire though..
Did he force the dutchman out or did he just not like the way Coleman wanted to do things? Verheijen made less than enthusiastic noises when Coleman was appointed and I suspected he was angling for a way out. Of course Coleman wants to do things his way and if Verheijen can't live with that then it is best he goes. However I felt he could have waited for Wednesday night to pass before he made his Twitter announcement. That was pretty unsympathetic to the family in particular. Then again have you ever met a happy Dutchman? They are always moaning about something. It is important for him to persuade Bellers to stay on. While Bellers was subbed Wednesday it didn't look to me like he was given that opportunity to say his last goodbyes to the supporters. However, did anyone else notice that Earnie walked around the whole ground acknowledging the fans while all others were leaving the pitch. I think it could be his last Wales appearance. Coleman will need some time and our support but I worry that 2 games only over 6/7 months (1 in USA - how many will not travel for that?) is not the best preparation before the WC qualifiers.
Robben seemed quite happy on Wednesday The manager should always be No1...simple. You can't expect the players to have respect for the man if they can see a No2 or whoever dictating (or at least trying to dictate) how things should be done. You just need to look at Malky as an example... "You're all involved but I'm the boss" Coleman was always going to have a tough time from the moment GS passed through to Wednesday's game. GS had the respect of everyone, rightly so, but as professionals (staff and players) and us fans, we now have to move on and all get behind the new manager. It's different at club level where most players are out for themselves but at International level, you're representing your country and should be as committed whoever is in charge. If we now go back to the old ways of players dropping out at will just because they don't agree with something, then unless they're 100% confirmed injured, they shouldn't be picked again imo...whoever they are. Yes, we will have different opinions and results will tell who's right and who's wrong but I think its way too early to start critising CC. please log in to view this image
Agreed BfB, I was a fan of Dutch Ray until the last few weeks, to me he seems to be over stating his own importance.
On the subject of 'injuries' I would like to see CC invoke the four day rule on clubs where the player is unfit for international matches.
H - very unusual for Robben to be happy. Ask his club fans in Germany. He is one of the most miserable, disruptive dutch tw*ts they have ever seen. Totally agree with everything else you said.
I recall similar comments about Gary Speed when he took over. Coleman has to be given time to show what he can do.
he has transformed bellamy's career, he has a CV of working under successful managers with teams like australia, south korea and world cups. i agree he acts like a big shot when he's just a fitness coach at the end of the day, but he's done good work here.
No argument there Swamp but his ego is bigger than him. I just hope his decision doesn't influence Bellers and the timing of his announcement, arrogantly on Twitter, showed little respect to Speed, his family and Wales fans. That in particular confirmed my opinion of him. He could easily have waited until after Wednesday.
agreed, any political FWA issues should have been put to one side so the only thoughts people had on wednesday were in memory of gary. instead verheijen decides to announce just before the memorial match that he's going, diverting attention to him.. i think this could contribute to bellamy retiring from internationals though.
Thanks guys for your thoughts some really good stuff to think about with your views. Swamp and BFB, I tend to agree with you that the "point scoring" should have been put aside until after wednesday. On a brighter note I hope CC can get Ben T on board? I believe that the majority of us are behind CC and the team, so hopefully in the short time we can maintain the status quo and in the long term push on to a major final? H bomb were did you get the icon from?
Evening lads verheijen was only interested in one thing and one thing only, he wanted the top job and to be honest with you i lost all respect for the bloke when he announced just before the game he was off, not much respect shown for speed or his family there if you ask me, personally i think the guy has a very big ego and when he met coleman he was probably a bit pissed that he was not offered the job ahead of coleman, and coleman has also probably put him straight on a few things, as for coleman he is now the manager and i would suggest that the players and the people of Wales get behind the manager at the end of the day he is the manager of our nations football team and he deserves our support and who knows we may just get to Brazil 2014. As for verheijen he will probably fill his time ranting on his twitter account.
I think that when Gary Speed was made manager, quite a few people (including me) questioned his his managerial successes, but I think we fell into the trap of comparing managing the Welsh national side with any other managerial job in football. Having realised my mistake, I'm now quite excited at the prospect of having CC at the helm - albeit in such tragic circumstances. I loved his passion during his days of playing for his country and I think he can continue to keep up the momentum the GS started. I wish him well.
