All free agents and looking for clubs.

I am not suggesting that any would provide more than injury cover, but they could certainly bolster the squad and with the transfer trapdoor closed, the power now passes to the club to leverage a package.

    We will see....

Spooky! Exactly the same words that I was about to write. The striker we need must be young and hungry, hopefully with a chance of buying. No more midfielders are needed.

Certainly take Baird. Cole might not be a bad addition, proven at Championship level a one year deal might be worth it as he'd at least give us back-up in an area we're not blessed with the injury-free. We don't need Benayoun...

What's wrong with Hitchcock and Shariff if you want young and hungry? We won't know how good they are unless they get a chance. Zamora is our weak link up front, and in our desperation to keep Johnson we seem to have forgotten that he will be injured again very soon.

Nothing wrong with Hitchcock or Shariff except that they're both rather slight, especially if the plan becomes to play just one up top.

Carlton Cole on a deal to the end of the season wouldn't be a bad move
