Former Newcastle United and Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra has been released by relegation-threatened Alloa Athletic. The 32-year-old Englishman made the last of his 17 appearances this season in December, the day he told the BBC he would apply to be their manager. Alloa seven days later appointed Jack Ross to succeed Danny Lennon. And the Scottish Championship club say Chopra has now been released following "set-backs" after picking up an injury. Chairman Mike Mulraney thanked Chopra for "his great effort" in helping the Wasps avoid relegation last season, when they defeated Forfar Athletic in a play-off after finishing second bottom. But Alloa are presently 10 points adrift of Livingston at the foot of the Championship and automatic relegation looks a certainty this time with only seven games of the season remaining. Chopra joined Alloa almost exactly a year ago after leaving Indian club Kerala Blasters and went on to make 28 appearances, scoring four goals. However, only one of them came this season - in August against Rangers - and his last outing came as he was substituted through injury after 29 minutes of a 5-0 thrashing by Championship rivals Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup on 8 December. I don't think many will care, to be honest, grandpops. But I posted it because I thought quite a few SAFC supporters might take some quiet satisfaction from it on a weekend when we're all pretty down. How's the mod thing going, by the way? Have issues of a couple of weeks ago been sorted? I hope so.
could not have happened to a more deserving person, hope he has to sell his arse down the docks and the Bigg market
There`s more than a spark of truth in that mind. The modding`s ok at the min. Plenty goes on behind the scenes but because it`s not on the front page we`re not doing anything. Because they`re behaving themselves atm means nothing. Probably taking a breather between rounds.
Ooooh Roger, the Bigg Market's ok, but not the docks please. Y'see, I was 12 before war-time food rationing ended. If Chopra had sold his arse down the docks, it would have probably ended up on a butcher's slab down High Street West and I might well have eaten a slice off it! No-o-o!. .
Grandpops, I do understand the mods' need for discretion - no problem, mate. But if there's any next "round", I do think as much as possible should be told openly to active members. Let's get it straight - you guys were elected properly and fairly on merit. And if need be, we all need to back you. Bear it in mind, Pops. Good luck.
