Ignoring the clubs they represent, if you were a footballer which one would you chose to work for and why?

If you're just going for the manager and ignoring all other aspects (financial rewards, playing for 'big clubs', etc.), then Ferguson, Wenger, Villas-Boas, Benitez, then Mancini, for me.

any of the 3 on the left.

SAF is arguably the best in the game and knows how to win.
Wenger has proven what a great coach he is over the years and has his teams playing great exciting football.
AVB is a breath of fresh air, who's young, exciting and full of new ideas. Already major honours to his name in his early 30's. - V impressive.

Mancini? totally overrated and only looks good because of the players he's got.
Benitez? Decent record at liverpool, but has been a bit of a laughing stock since.

Wenger. He seems the most keen to give young players a chance and also pays you well until you outgrow the club and leave on a free for a club you can win trophies with.

It would have to involve Wenger moving to a different club though as I'd never play for Arsenal, obviously.

Fergie - annoying bastard, but you'd finish your career with a load of medals.

Ferguson from that list, to do it repeatedly with different players over two decades is something the others have got nowhere near, nor are they likely to. He has a lot in his favour over the others, but he's made that air about him. The others might know how to play football, SAF knows how to win matches.

Mourinho is an interesting exclusion, because if he was in there I might have said him, he's won the title in the 3 biggest leagues in the Europe, not to be sneezed at, and I just find him a real character.

Toss up between Ferguson (since he's had the benefit of buying so many top players from the competition over the years) and AVB

Benitez is a joke, Mancini has money and Wengers won nothing since the inherited defence retired

After all the nasty stories over the years, why would anyone want to work for Ferguson? If he takes a slight dislike to you, you're going to have a hard time.

Mancini seems like the easiest boss to work for. You could literally get away with anything, as we've seen time after time.

Behind the idea for this poll was the thought that footballers are taking into consideration who will be their manager. So with that in mind offering the choice between the top 5 PL managers is interesting because that is who we are (or should be) competing with in the transfer market. It's one factor among many but it is a factor.

I'd pick Fergie. The part of me being a United fan aside. He knows how to get the best out of each individual. There's been multiple players who've been mediocre players but get games in at United and play well above their actual level. He knows how to inspire a team. Along with the fact he keeps his squad a tight knit group, and is run very family-esque (if what ex-players say is true). That along with the sense of security in terms of coaching and boardroom changes and the fact you're almost guaranteed to win trophies would be hard to look else where.

id work for AVB....hes got ideas i really take to...he also seems to be able to keep a squad happy...seems to be enthusiastic..seems to learn from mistakes..and most importantly if im a player i would think if i perform to the best of my ability..he will give me a chance.

Fergie will be the obvious choice and rightly so i suppose...but i would enjoy the experience of taking on AVb's ideology....this could be an age thing..i am of a similar age to AVB...this would be a problem to many, but not to me i think, taking into consideration the way the spurs squad seems to be a happy camp.

Ferguson. He's a winner and he seems to get the best out of a very large percentage of his players.

Wenger if i were young,as he gives young players a chance if he thinks they are good enough, other than that AVB,he wants to win things and has good ideas, tactically

There might be more of a debate if you picked managers from the past, Spurf. Or from abroad.

Cloughie, for example or Stein- who SAF credits as such a big influence on him.

Of the list, SAF stands out a mile. Only Wenger, of the rest, merits any consideration.

SAF is a winner and contrary to popular opinion very, very supportive of his players. Few have a bad word to say about him. Not every player under his guidance has succeeded, but he gives everyone a chance and will go out of his way to do his best for them. He might not always endear himself to outsiders, but he's fiercely loyal to his own.

If I was looking to sign now then it would be AVB purely because I believe all the others have had their glory days while AVB has yet to do so. Ferguson will retire in 2 years maybe and then Man Utd will be in a period of uncertainty. Wenger has gone stale at Arsenal and his constant whinging would get on my nerves. Mancini is and City have the power to get in whoever they want, whenever they want. Mancini will be gone in the summer if City come away trophyless this season. And Benitez is a class A Muppet.

seems like alot of people want to work for Fergie for the medal count...i honestly would not have that as my main concern when choosing a club...it goes against my principle for years of cursing footballers who only want to play even if it is a bit part role...... i want to play week in week out.....there seems to be alot of Berbatov's around here...yeh he won some medals and now hes at fulham...we are miles ahead of them.i think it also depends on our ages when making this choice.

personally id love to become a legend for a club.......and be a Giggs or a King.

That is what I think is maybe in the thoughts of Verts & now Holtby when deciding to join Spurs.
