For years trying all these new ****ing chips, Aunt Bessies, McCain etc, I have realised that I have been feeding me and the girls **** basically, not that we eat them much..

So today I bought a good old fashioned chip pan, deciding whether to chuck lard in it or Sunflower oil, my heart says lard as I remember but my head says Sunflower oil.. Any of you lads still like to make the traditional Chips with Maris piper spuds or is this purely a poncy crisp forum.. <whistle>

Ok I always use vegetable oil and make sure it’s very hot.
Cut your spuds so that they are thin and will cook quicker and better if you do.
Then I cook small amounts of chips at a time, stir occasionally so that they don’t clump.

Chips mm- they are always better homemade.

Yep, I use sunflower oil in a wok, parboil the spuds first. King Edwards are the best imo.

Aside from a chip shop. Not had proper home cooked chips in years, and I don't own a chip fryer. Although fancy them now, could probably do them in a large frying pan, but I only have olive oil in the house and not sunflower oil, not sure what temperture olive oil can tolerate. Fook it, feel too lazy anyway.

I do have oven chips but tbph whatever variety you buy they are all shhite for one reason or another.

I’ve got an air fryer...but now and again I treat myself to homemade chips

McCain’s Home fries are tasty as are the French fries.

remember to blanch the spuds first.
Olive oil is a complete waste as a frying oil, you'd be better off with lard.

And, did you know, that frying vegetables is healthier than boiling them?

I suspect it will be your heart pleading for Sunflower Oil.

lard is a far heathier option for deep frying than sunflower oil.

If you are being serious I didnt know that. Always thought lard was really bad for you as it was mostly animal fats.

sunflower oil oxidizes really quickly and forms lots of toxins, the healthiest oil is coconut (unsurprisingly, it's ****ing awesome for pretty much everything), though it tends to taint everything with a coconut taste.

I said it was the healthiest, not best, you can't beat lard for frying chips. It's cheaper and healthier than the sunflower oil, switch and thank me later.

I'll guess at 3kg's worth, I just checked, looks like I lied about it being cheaper.
