    "There were also major cultural differences when teenagers were asked about why people succeeded at school.

    "North Americans tell you typically it's all luck. 'I'm born talented in mathematics, or I'm born less talented so I'll study something else.'

    "In Europe, it's all about social heritage: 'My father was a plumber so I'm going to be a plumber'.

    "In China, more than nine out of 10 children tell you: 'It depends on the effort I invest and I can succeed if I study hard.'

    "They take on responsibility. They can overcome obstacles and say 'I'm the owner of my own success', rather than blaming it on the system."

    Over the next few decades we in the West are truly ****ed.

    <laugh>

    UK schools punish the talented/clever and reward the dumb ****s.

    How dare you learn at a rate higher than the national average, slow down and let dumb kids catch up.

    True<ok>

    The system has turned out a whole generation of work shy lazy ****s who want and expect everything for **** all input. My guess is they'll get a nasty shock when they become slaves to our Chinese masters to be.

    I'm off to purchase a little red book :)

    Don't the Finns use a virtual mirror of this system and still succeed massively?
    I think that they banned private schools entirely, if I remember right.
    They focus on individuality and try to make students well adjusted people, rather than successful academics and it produces great results in these tests, for some reason.
