I'll be amusing to see how many comments get on this thread. The interesting thing for me will be how Australia cope with Chile when England couldn't last year. I suspect Chile are a bit good.

I strongly suspect you're right. Time for the world to finally see what Sampaoli's team is all about. At least 3-0, for me. Could be 6.

I think Chile are real dark horses. South American advantage will be important as they are used to the climate, but they play such positive football, and are really hardworking. England were lucky to escape with a 2-0 earlier this year in truth.

The overriding feeling I got from watching Chile playing England was that I wanted Saints to play like them. Under Pochettino we were very similar indeed, without the ball, but what was really different was that Chile took their chances brilliantly, by building attacks better and making better quality chances. That can be coached as well as the next thing.

Chile and Spain to get out this group, quite possibly with Chile even winning the group.

Absolutely. It's such a shame he's not remotely qualified to be our manager......

Just because they beat England, now they're better than Spain?

I think there are quite a few reasons they could better Spain.

...but I would (genuinely) still like to know why they are suddenly up there with the world's best. I know they've got a few good players and a decent manager, but that's all I know about them. The standard of their defenders look fairly unimpressive.

    I think you'll find it's the 'Socceroos'

Not at all an embarrassing name or anything.

I'm not saying they're definitely better than Spain, but they play some very nice football, and have the South American advantage on their side. They can do some damage in this tournament for sure. I think Spain will be the major disappointments of the tournament, what with their ageing team. They'll get out of the group for sure, but I'm unconvinced that they'll go that far afterwards. It's all just prediction though, who knows with the World Cup, I'm certainly looking forward to the games tonight!

Ah yes, it is an amusing nickname.

But I've been to Australia and it's nice.

Sort of America-lite with more censorship

Yeah, this was the point that I was immaturely trying to make. Let's face it, most of us know very little when it comes to the majority of the teams in this competition. For all we know Algeria will make it to the semi's, and Argentina won't even get a single point.
