Opta have been on the case for you and I can tell you that of players who have scored at least 10 goals in the Premier League, Javier Hernandez now boasts the best goals-per-minute record in history. His consolation strike against Liverpool was his 10th Premier League goal for Manchester United with Opta clocking his playing minutes at 962. That means that on average, he scores a goal for every 96 minutes, 12 seconds that he is on the pitch. His 10 goals have also come from just 14 shots on target.

Injury crocked Torres - £50 million
A big pony tailed hippy - £35 million

    Hernandez - £7 million

    Fergie does it again <ok>

What about Andy Cole when Newcastle got promoted?

He had a hell of a strike rate, and Henry that season he scored 36...

i imagine he started a lot of games and completed 90 minutes most of the time, hence why his goal to game ratio is lower.

at the moment isnt even close to be honest. hernandez is 96 minutes per goal..the closest is henry at 122.

They're talking about over the whole career - Cole's ratio might have been higher when Newcastle first hit the Prem (34 goals in 40 games) but will have dropped off in his second season when he got 9 in 18, and similarly dropped at Utd when he wasn't the focus of the attack.

Henry never got 36 goals in a PL season. Best he ever got was 30 in 37 games in 03/04, which would have been around 110 mins per goal tho' I'm guessing he was subbed near the end of some of the games. And he had a much longer career, so he's still the man to beat in the long term.

Those stats aren't all that meaningful at this point, given how much he's played as a sub and his ability to terrorise tired defences. But given his goal scoring form recently, it's not inconceivable that he could keep his ratio close to that of Henry or Torres over the next couple of seasons. Might be getting ahead of myself there... :)

Swarbs...that's where I was aiming for...I was on the one season idea, given that this is Hernandez' debut season.

Don't get me wrong, I think Hernandez was a brilliant buy, espescially when you compare him to Bebe...he'll develop into something more special if he carries on at this rate.

Torres at £50m...a **** of a lot of money, eye watering, arse twitching, but probably/ almost/ maybe justifiable over time with marketing rev and possible trophy haul...at least that's what I tell myself anyway<whistle>

    Carroll<laugh>

Pikey with a fair bit of potential, bi-polar and an alcohol problem, who has violent tendencies towards women and team mates.

    Biggest panic buy ever.

Would be interesting to see who has the best goals per game minute for a single season. Probably Macheda after his two goals in about 100 minutes of sub appearances in 2009...

Maybe...but it's gonna take a hell of a lot to jusify it, especially if he keeps sulking and making up excuses. £30 million Berbatov has 46 goals and counting, so Torres needs to get to at least 77 to represent similar value for money...and he scored 81 in four seasons at 'pool...

Sounds fair. Tho' he's got more time to justify his price than Torres (and Berbatov for that matter).

Had some quality banter with a 'pool fan on their board who insisted that Carroll must represent better value than Berbatov cos he's only 21. Think I burst his bubble when I pointed out that if Carroll only scores 10 goals a season for the next four years and then gets sold for £10 million he'll be pretty **** value all round... <laugh>
