A chance on Tuesday to build on the win at Hartlepool last Tuesday. Hopefully the Tango Man will play a strong side because the chance of a game at the National Stadium is a possibility. Credit to the club for making it a cheap game allround should get a couple of thousand on. Forecast is for a cold night maybe snow lets hope the lads put on a show to wqarm the cockles of your heart. Believe there may be a collection before the game to pay Blackpool's player Boran Djordic's wages after it was revealed Lashers were giving him only £90 per week
As usual Themaclad your style cheers me up. On a day when north end were given the kiss of death by mr Hemmings, the thought that bleakpoo can only pay £90 per week makes me chuckle.
Disappointment haunted all my dreams is a line from a Monkees song in the late 1960's called I'm a believer, the lyrics sum up the feelings of most North End fans after last nights draw with Chesterfield. Sadly losing on penalties meant that the trip to the National Stadium is postponed yet again. A first half which I thought was entertaining with a plethora of good scoring chances. There could have been 3 goals in the first five minutes, first Chesterfield had a glorious chance in the first 30 seconds and North End had two chances both should have been scored. Both defences seemed extremely weak in the early stages and it came as no surprise when a goal was scored. It was the home side who went ahead when a pinpoint corner from Mayor was headed in at the near post by McCombe. North End could have doubled the lead when Procter bulldozing run and cross was scrambled away by a desperate visitors defence with Mellor closing in on goal. Out of the blue Chesterfield equalised and it had a touch of fortune about it. A shot was blocked by a defender the ball took a ricochet which completely wrong footed everybody bar Westcarr who trundled the ball into an empty net. This spurred Chesterfield on and they began to look dangerous spurning two chances before half time to give them the lead. Whatever Messers Brown and Sheriden told their players at half time resulted in 30 minutes of tedium in the 2nd half, North End passed it sideways, backwards and when they ran out of ideas hoofed it forward, Chesterfield passed the ball about for fun and went absolutely nowhere. With 15 minutes left a Chesterfield shot on goal finally roused the home side from their coma induced football. Mellor blasted a shot from 30 yards which forced Lee into an excellent save, he went narrowly wide with another effort. Procter shot when a teammate was in a better position and finally Mellor had a header saved by Lee. Chesterfield nearly sneaked a winner at the end but Clarkes woeful effort dribbled towards goal and was easily saved. Onto penalties Chesterfield missed the first one, the next four were scored. Alexander's kick found some unsuspecting supporter in the stand, Coutts missed and then Mendy strolled up and passed the ball into the net to clinch the game for Chesterfield. Disappointment does haunt my dreams. Preston North End 1 Chesterfield 1 Att5800 (Chesterfield win 4-2 on penalties)
