Folks me off to chelts for the first time for the first two days of the festivel so can any of the fine folk of the forum tell me which is the best stand for atmosphere, views, booze, craic, loose women etc!i heard both the tatts and best mate stand are the place to be.which stand does the oul not606 meet up happen, wouldn't mind a pint and a chinwag with my fellow forum members so I can stinge some tips and maybe a packet of crisps
I'll be in Tatts both days ste can't beat the craic in the Guiness village and you get to see the horses close up. Worth shelling out for a ticket in the temporary stand they put up at the back of the Guiness village - you get a lovely view of the horses coming down the hill, round the bend and over the last- 25 quid I think. Check the Cheltenham website
Here Here, Completely agree Nass! Best value for money!! Watching them gallop to you up the hill! Nothing like it! I shall be there on the Tuesday & Friday
Well its second best to the Members roof, but I am not letting you plebs up there!!! I can't wait, four days of superb racing (6 days out in 7 days with Taunton and Sandown beforehand)
Cheltenham is probably one of the few remaining festivals I haven't attended one reason is that I always think you probably get a better view on the TV and another is that it is not that easy to get to. anyone know whether you can do it in a day from London on the train or am I best advised to stop over?
QUOTE=ste doran;5877540]Cheers lads.im gona stay in bristol which is just under n hour away so happy days[/QUOTE] Good move Ste. I am from Bristol myself... let me know if you need any pointers for where to stay or bars to visit! 45/50 mins by train from Temple Meads to Cheltenham and there are late trains put on for festival goers. I will be attending on Gold Cup day as usual. We tend to go for Best Mate enclosure as there are other things going on , such as live band and other entertainment and that suits everyone. We tend to get there by coach at 11am and enjoy the atmosphere and catch a late train home after partying in Cheltenham with other race goers and locals. It s normally a cracking atmosphere. Head to Slug and Lettuce in Cheltenham and there are a few bars round there which are good....
I live in brighton and have done a day for the last couple of years! From london its easy Paddington to Cheltenham spa 2hrs- and there are trains that go direct!!
I would imagine you COULD do it in a day Steve, but it would be a bloody long day! Stopping over somewhere is probably best, although I don't imagine that accomodation will be particularly cheap, but it gives you the opportunity to do TWO days instead of one. It's what I do, staying at what Nass charmingly calls the Kennel Club Because I have to bring my dogs, I sleep over in my motorhome, so the accomodation is cheap, but offset by kennelling fees for two days, and taxi's to and from the course! Ste - in my opinion, the Best Mate stand offers great views and is fantastic value at £25 per ticket, however, there will be more 606ers in Tatts where tickets are £40. Finding them however, is not easy! Fancy head gear helps, Danbo in his porkpie hat, me in a lumberjack with ear flaps. And Nass of course who leaves his topper in his private box before coming to meet the plebs Just as well really, as it would be an obvious target in the food fights
Cheers c pops,I will probably message you nearer time for a quick summary for places to get pissed in bristolReebs i will be wearing a pink manikini and wearing a trible hat so I won't be hard to find!
I'm planning to fly to the UK on the Saturday prior to Cheltenham to avoid any repeat of the "snowed in at Frankfurt" trauma of 2013 ........................
Oh I remember that **** oddy last year, mother nature didn't want you at chelts, you must have sinned in your past life!!
