chaps, new idea for the Preview Evening. Let’s see if there’s any mileage in this and do it if there’s uptake and knock it on the head if not.

Our traditional preview evening is usually well received but we focus on the graded races and it’s almost always a lot of regurgitated analysis as we’ll almost universally pick the obvious in quite a few of the races. I don’t think it offers anything to most of us.

We don’t tend to spend any time on the handicaps in our evening. Why not reverse that trend this year and do a preview evening on the handicaps only.

We could take one handicap each and do a proper job breaking down the race or we could do smaller pieces on whatever race you fancy?

    What do we think?

    Any interest?

I dont mind having a look at a few Andrew . Saying that i try to avoid the graded races anyway as the handicaps are more fun to pick apart and reasemble!
I will keep an eye on the thread see how much uptake there is.

I don't think I've ever done a preview. Mainly because my selections would probably be ****e. I won't volunteer for a specific race Bob but I will have a look at the handicaps and if I see one I can make any sense of I'll PM it to you for you to do what you like with <laugh>

What usually happens to my suggestions

I don't mind trying to crack a handicap. Not easy at Cheltenham, but then again, not easy anywhere!
At least we have the bonus that they are all trying.

Great idea. I’ll take part as after all we can’t have the dear old regular readers going into battle without me in their trench. What, what?!? I’ll do any handicap given. As I said on the NAPS/EW/LAY thread my best advice is contained within the old handicaps, this time around, and now the novice handicap chase (elevated to 0-145 for the first time) is like the Pertemps and contains ‘more plots than an Agatha Christie novel’.

I do agree though that the whole thing is due a ‘freshen up’ especially this year given the number of ‘shorties’ in the Grade 1’s.

It is in my book, as opposed to 2 or 3 having a go, which 99% of us wont know about, and the rest of the field running to lower their mark for another day, which 99% of us wont know about.
If they are all trying, they will run near to their mark and form stands up.
After all, if they are all having a go, and the handicapper is right they would all finish together on the line in a multi dead heat.

Perhaps you like a 12 runner class 7 handicap at Southwell on a Wednesday afternoon?
But then again, you don't like anything other than yourself and your warped opinions.

A quote from todays RP :
Meydan latest: The Live Tipster - Meydan betting
There's nothing worthy of the name 'market mover'. I guess Meydan is a world away from a Class 7 at Southwell when one has been laid out for a touch for six months.

Having had a brief look at the handicaps, I wouldn't touch any of them with a barge pole; so can't be of any help here. Sorry Bob. Good luck to those who attempt to untangle them

The problem I have is that, whilst I may glance at the cards in advance, I don’t take a serious look at the Handicaps until final declarations. I just can’t be arsed going through 80 odd entries for the Coral Cup. So that may kind of count me out too (plus I am in the states all next week on a business trip).
