On our way to Cheltenham now, gonna make sure the weekend is not dampened by the result. We badly need a win but not holding much hope.
Well done for going to Cheltenham Elfs Nice little town, quite sleepy early in the mornings. I did some site work there once at the Town Hall. Used to get there early, sometimes looking for a place to buy a paper or a sandwich. The whole town seemed to sleep in until about 9am... I'm expecting very little from the game. We'll get one goal if we're lucky. Sadly I think we'll lose again. But you never know...
Have a good weekend, Elfs. Can't wait to see what the team is. If it's unchanged (apart from McG in goal) I expect we'll lose again.
As a mate of mine once said on the away to an away game, ' we need to keep the football content of the day to a minimum'. Sure enough he only turned up in the second half after being kicked out of the pub he was holed up in. Really can't see us getting much from this - Cheltenham were better than us ato our place, and we have slipped back into a lot of old habits recently. I'll go for a 2-1 win as we are overdue a decent results, but there is no basis on current form for that to happen.
Interesting line up…. TEAM NEWS | Aneke starts Cheltenham clash 15th January 2022 14:00pm please log in to view this image Chuks Aneke starts this afternoon’s Sky Bet League One encounter against Cheltenham Town at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium as Johnnie Jackson makes five changes. The forward will lead the Addicks’ line alongside 18-year-old Mason Burstow, who earns his first league start for the club, while Ryan Inniss returns to captain Jackson’s side. Elsewhere, Adam Matthews and Albie Morgan also start as Jason Pearce, Ben Purrington, Alex Gilbey and Jonathan Leko are named among the substitutes bench. Henderson continues in goal, with Inniss operating alongside Sean Clare and Akin Famewo in the Addicks’ back-three. Matthews and Diallang Jaiyesimi are expected to occupy wing-back roles with Morgan, George Dobson and Elliot Lee patrolling in midfield, behind a front two of Aneke and Burstow. Pearce, Purrington, Gilbey and Leko are joined on the bench by Nathan Harness, Ben Watson and Corey Blackett-Taylor. The nature of the three-day turnaround means today's fixture falls too soon for Conor Washington, who misses out with a minor niggle. Commenting on the absence of Craig MacGillivray, Jackson told CharltonTV: “Henderson stays in goal; Macca is still away spending time with his family after the birth of his daughter." Charlton: Henderson; Clare, Inniss (c), Famewo; Matthews, Morgan, Dobson, Lee, Jaiyesimi; Aneke, Burstow Subs: Harness, Pearce, Purrington, Watson, Gilbey, Blackett-Taylor, Leko
This is depressing. As things stand, if teams below us win their games in hand we will be 19th. Two places and two points above relegation to L2. Anyone think that is not a disgrace ? I’m not saying TS out, but he is not taking us to Europe, he is not taking us to the Premier League and at the moment he is not providing enough funds to take us to the championship. This squad is nowhere near good enough to achieve success. Compare it to the last two promotion winning teams from L1 and it is crystal clear. Our signings are simply not good enough and that equates to not expensive enough I’m afraid.
As on wednesday, I started on beer and veered into whiskey as the game went away from us, My missus brought back some weird tequila bottle from Mexico, and I'm just waiting for the right moment to crack it open. We suicidally presented them with chance after chance so I expect to be out of it by the 90th minute. Matthews got away a couple of times but never got any support, and as our passsing got worse we went higher and higher. Badly need a big change this half,
I can’t understand how we’ve deteriorated so much of late - maybe it’s a confidence issue when stockley’s not about ?
It has coincided with Stockleys absence, but I think it’s just a case that we overperformed after Jacko came in. The new manager bounce is seen time and time again and it usually fizzles out after 8/10 games. We are simply back to where we were before Adkins was sacked.
If he is and Aneke is actually his replacement then TS will lose the fans. JJ would also be culpable unless he has the balls to walk away in protest.
