Go on then, we all boast about what we think is going to win the big races, but which horse to the fore in the markets for Cheltenham is going to get beaten. Put your cards on the table boys and girls. For me - Hurricane Fly
I just had the one confident lay for Cheltenham (in the Gold Cup) but he was taken out. Not confident about any others at this stage.
Back in the Autumn I said that if either Hurricane Fly or Rock on Ruby (then joint faves for the Champion Hurdle) won the 2013 version of that heat then I’d run down my local High Street starkers and I stand by that comment.
Bobs Worth - On form and on his liking of the course, he is a worthy favourite, however there is an argument to say that Sir Des Champs like the course just as much, also First Lieutenant stays longer than an unwanted smell and Silviniaco Conti has done nothing wrong at all this season. Lack of a recent run might have taken the sharpness off him. All the above, plus the fact I'm hanging on to some juicy 12/1 slips about Conti, makes me think he may be the one to take on.
Pont Alexandre. To paraphrase the trainer he's said this one is a great big lump who'll make a smashing chaser next year. There's been 2 great horses that I can remember whose trainers have touted a similar line about them prior to losing at the festival over hurdles: Denman and Sprinter Sacre. Right where's the egg, I prefer mine scrambled.
Every year there's a hot favourite for the Supreme Novices, and every year it gets turned over, so MTOY is a no brainer. The markets seem to have mistaken Simonsig for a grey clone of Sprinter Sacre. I won't be laying him, but I've backed Overturn at 7s and am feeling smug.
Glad a few others are seeing sense regarding MTOY. He could bolt up, and i hope he does. You can never have enough superstar horses. But The fact is as Archers pointed out, there is a lot of bankers turned over in the supreme. In resent years the same connections have had Binocular and Darlan beaten in the race. So even horse that are proven to subsequently be top class can get beat in the race. 7/4? not for me.
Hawkeye your rep bar is red whilst everyone else has a green on. Does this make you evil? I think MTOY has to be taken on at the price. Couldn't help but be impressed with his win in the Betfair and he deserves his place at the head of the market but he's much too short in my book and its not as if he's come here winning every race in his career.
Agree re MTOY. He's proven he's capable of running to a mark that could feasibly win him the Supreme but most of the others haven't been afforded that luxury just yet. It doesn't mean he's the best horse in the race. Whatever the result I don't think he'll win like a 7/4 shot.
THE NEW ONE in the Neptune, I have so much money coming to me if this one wins ans I am not that fecking lucky!
