Can you list in order, Chelsea's greatest performances in European competition? For example: 1 Barcelona 2011/12 2 Anfield 2008/9 3 Munich 2011/12 4 Barcelona 2005/6 5 Barcelona 1999/2000
Off the top - Away to Barca 2012 Home to Barca 2006 Home to Munich 2006 Home to Napoli 2012 Away to Lazio - cant remember the year but we won 3-0 if i recall.
4-0 mate. Great night; loads of roma mobbed up in our end just before KO. Dennis in the San Siro 99 great night too Our home wins v Bruges 94 and Vicenza 98: the Bridge rocked that night
Vicenza in the 98 Cup Winners Cup Semi! 1-0 down from the first leg. They come to the Bridge and grab an early goal, meaning we then needed 3! Up steps Zola, Poyet and Sparky!
I'll never forget the death struggle against AC Milan in 1966, or even better the win out in Athens against Real Madrid in 1970. The OP's choices are all temendous moments for any True Blue!
Barca 04/05 was for me a truly great night, starting 2-1 down. Flew into a 3-0 lead only to have Ronaldinho drag Barca back in, then JT, with a little help from Ricky C, sends us through. Glorious night and we did it playing football
In my lifetime, absolutely nothing will beat Barca at home in 2000. 3 goals in the space of about 8 minutes
Also up there; Galatasary away 99, Arsenal away 04, both Barca legs 05, Liverpool at home 08 and Barca away 12!
I went out to Athens with 4 mates, on a 3 day/2 night accommodation, flights and match ticket deal for £59! Quite a lot of dosh in those days! The match was on day 2! We went 1-0 up , courtesy of Ossie, and they came back with a goal in the last minute! The replay was scheduled 2 days later, i.e the day after we had to fly home! Anyway we all met round my parents house and watched it on the telly and went out afterwards for a monumental p*ss up! The great thing about it was in Athens airport ,when we were checking in to go home ,the players turned up behind us to see off their WAG's who couldn't stay on and we had a good bit of banter with them! Happy days!!
1. Barca (H) - 2000 2. Barca (A) - 2012 3. Arsenal (A) - 2004 4. Liverpool (A) - 2009 5. Barca (H) - 2005
There was a sense of inevitability once they rallied and got that consolation goal but we should have been out of sight, it really was incredible viewing given the talent Barca had at their disposal back then and the fact we were faltering in our own league and didn't have a single player that would get into their side (bar maybe Zola).
For me it will have to be an easier game and a European scoring record that will never be beaten. On a cold night in February 1971 at the Bridge me and a few mates revelled in the wonder of what was to come after we had massacred Jeunesse Hautcharage 8-0 away in the first leg. We didn't have to wait long before Ossie Hollins & Hudson put us four up inside eleven minutes. Chelsea went on to win 13-0 and therefore secure an unbeatable tally with Ossie plundering 5, Baldwin 3, Houseman, Hollins, Harris, Hudson & Webb. Not the best game of football granted but the magic of seeing a record that will stand forever is a rare treat.
Barca 2009: we played very well that night and they only had/needed one shot on goal. We were the only team to outplay them, even 11 on 11, that season. 3 or 4-1 would have been an accurate reflection of play. They went on to batter United (2-0, it could have been 22) with half their team out
