Its been a song we have sung for years and years,Celery Celery,if she wont cum i'll tickle her bum with a lump of Celery, Celery Celery.
Its not quite as good now because years ago before they banned it when the song was being sung loads of bits of celery would be thrown around but you know health and safety and all that.

Noticed the flag, didn't notice the words. When did the song originate and what was the meaning of it, if any?

    Celery banned at the Bridge

'The throwing of anything at a football match, including celery, is a criminal offence for which you can be arrested and end up with a criminal record

Chelsea have banned celery from Stamford Bridge and ordered fans to stop throwing it during matches after the Football Association launched an investigation into instances of salad tossing at their recent matches.

Two referees have now mentioned celery being thrown onto the pitch during their official reports of Chelsea matches, while Arsenal's players complained of being pelted with the vegetable when they tried to take corners during the first half of the Carling Cup final.

Blues fans have been bringing the vegetable to games for over two decades in homage to their terrace chant 'Celery', but the club reminded them today that throwing the vegetable was, in fact a criminal offence.

"The throwing of anything at a football match, including celery, is a criminal offence for which you can be arrested and end up with a criminal record," read a statement on the club website. "In future, if anyone is found attempting to bring celery into Stamford Bridge they could be refused entry and anyone caught throwing celery will face a ban."

The statement went on to direct fans to a hotline they could call to report others seen carrying celery, promising that "all calls will be treated in confidence".

Been to the Bridge several times and not noticed the song I'm afraid. Maybe our own guys sitting/standing around me are making too much noise.

I'm not exactly sure how long ago it was banned, but it has to be a good 12 years! It used to rain down from the old "new" West Stand, but I cant recall it ever coming down in the New West Stand

The most clueless fans ever when it comes to flags and banners.

When they bought Torres they made a banner but decided to leave the Shankly Gates on it <doh> <doh>

If you look at the two flags you'll note everything is the same (except the colour has improved) even the picture albeit it has been enlarged, 6 bonus points to you Sherlock.

    KKD is correct

Celery is now deemed a dangerous vegetable/herb. It had been a Chelsea tradition for decades, from the 80's Mickey Greenaway (rip) heard the song somewhere and decided to start singing it at the Bridge. The throwing of said harmful veg was a shed invention. <ok>

As Ginge said, Micky Greenaway heard the song somewhere and decided to adopt it. Just a bit of random fun.
