Is there some kind of rule that we are obliged to play you in Late December - New Years Day? I always enjoy Boxing Day games so it should be good and I think you guys played Spurs on this day 1/2 years ago (can't remember as I was walking across Putney Bridge to Westfields and I saw loads of Spuds going to CC). Just wondering if anyone else noticed this? Well anyway you are lucky enough to see your team play as early as tomorrow so good luck and best of luck for the rest of the season.
Thanks, District Line. After complaints a few years ago when Charlton had to travel to Newcastle on Boxing Day, the league tries to keep Christmas ties fairly local. It's not ideal for me, as I'm Christmassing with the in-laws in Lancashire this year and had hoped for an away fixture at one of the many North-West teams, but it does make sense for most people. That said, in financial terms it always seems a shame to me when we play you on Boxing Day or New Years Day. The home game against you is a guarenteed sell-out whenever it comes up, and from our lower division days I recall the holiday games always having above average crowds. We'd sell more tickets whoever we were playing on Boxing Day, so it's a wasted opportunity to make an otherwise ordinary game into one with increased gate receipts. Then again, I'll be happy to see us play you anytime if we can take three points off you. After Dempsey's penalty miss I think we're just about due a win.
